This Is How to Have Better Adventures Using komoot Collections

June 5, 2024

Imagine this: you’re scrolling through the feed in the Home tab and come across a card titled “The European Divide Trail…” or maybe you’re in the Routes tab studying exciting places on the map when you notice “Collections nearby” in the results list. You click on one and scroll through the routes. “Might be nice to do something similar someday…” you think to yourself, before heading back to the feed or starting to plan a new, closer-to-home route from scratch.

You, friend, are missing a trick. Here’s how to get the most from komoot Collections, from saving them for when “one day” comes around, to cherry-picking routes from Collections that suit your specs today.

What to expect from Collections

Komoot Collections are a series of routes bundled together into a…Collection. Within the app, they take on different forms:

  • Multi-day routes comprise one long route that’s been broken into doable daily sections, saved in one place.

  • Routes on a theme are unconnected routes that have a common thread. They might be routes near a city or in a popular tourist area, or routes that incorporate a specific interest, like wild swimming spots or historical sites.

  • Highlights can also constitute a Collection, for example by combining all the recommended places in a specific area, in one place within komoot.

Collections are created by komoot editors, community groups we collaborate with, partners (like outdoor brands or tourism associations), and your friends on komoot.

Tips and tricks for getting the most from komoot Collections

Save cool Collections for later

Save Collections that look exciting and easily find them when you’re ready. Tap on the bookmark icon at the top of the Collection to save it. It’ll appear in your profile under Bookmarked Collections.

Cherry pick individual Routes

You’ve found a Collection of hikes to your region’s best beaches. But your region is large and you hate driving. No problem. Choose the routes closest to you and tap Save. They’ll appear in your profile under Planned Routes, ready for finessing when you are. Alternatively, tap Customize directly from the route to edit in the planner then and there. The same applies for amazing long-distance routes that you don’t have time to complete: save a week’s worth of routes and complete a short section of the long route instead.

Navigate routes from a multi-day route

If time and experience are on your side and you want to stick to the original, full-length route in the Collection, you’ll need to save the routes to your own profile in order to navigate from them.

  • If you’re subscribed to Premium Below the Collection intro, you’ll see the option to use the route template. This copies the route in its entirety, so you’ll end up with one long route. Follow the prompt to break it up into daily segments using the Multi-day planner, save them offline, and you’re ready to go!

  • If you don’t have Premium Without a Premium subscription, it’s simplest to save each route of the Collection individually. You can use the template, but you won’t have access to the Multi-day planner to break the very long route into daily segments.

Create your own Collections with Premium

Gathering recommendations for a holiday in an obscure part of the world? Save them in a Collection. Piecing together your own multi-day route? Organize your activities in a Collection. Just completed a special adventure and want to keep the memories in one place? Once again, Collections are the answer. The final note on Collections: folks with Premium can turn any bundle of routes into their own Collection to keep your profile satisfyingly organized.
