The Wäller Tour “Greifenstein Loop” lets you experience many wonderful highlights of the Westerwald over a total of 36 kilometers. Ambitious hikers can easily manage it within a day - but it certainly promises even more enjoyment if you split it into two or even more stages. It starts in Herborn and from there via the villages of Merkenbach and Fleisbach up to Greifenstein. The charming place is best known for its spectacular hilltop castle. Not least because of the world of bells and the double church located on the castle grounds, a detour at this point is definitely worthwhile. Then you dive back into untouched nature and forests and you will soon reach the wonderfully situated Ulmbach dam. In summer you can go swimming here and give your legs a short break - a little more than half of the tour is still ahead of you.Via Rodenroth you climb up to the Rasenberg, which, in good weather, gives you a magnificent view of the Feldberg im Taunus. In the mountain forest above Nenderoth, which you reach only a few kilometers later, the next highlight awaits you with the Nenderother waterfall. If you come here in spring or autumn, it bubbles particularly nicely over the rocks.Above Arborn you hike in the last section of the tour to the Hahrehausen landscape conservation area with the Adolf Weiss monument and finally past the Krombach dam back to the WesterwaldSteig near Rehe. This is where the loop ends.Tip: If you haven't had enough, you can continue the route via the WesterwaldSteig as a circular hiking trail in the direction of Fuchskaute to the starting point in Herborn. But we would easily plan another day for that. Otherwise, from Rehe, bus number 520 will bring you back to Herborn at regular intervals.

What gave the Klosterweg the German hiking seal “Premiumweg”? The unique way to cast hikers under its varied spell. With a total length of almost 18 adventurous kilometers, it leads you through three stream valleys and up to a few promising heights. By the way, it connects the Rheinsteig in Rengsdorf with the WesterwaldSteig in Waldbreitbach and runs through an extremely attractive piece of earth, the Rhein-Westerwald Nature Park. The monastery path is always worth a trip. The start of the trail is right in Rengsdorf at the St. Kastor chapel. Over the natural monument Römergraben you make your way from here to the idyllic Laubachtal and from there on to Ehlscheid. If you feel like it, here is a good time to take a break - the local gastronomy is particularly familiar with hikers and their wishes.Over the Gommerscheider Höhe with a spectacular view up to the Malberg and then over the deep Dombach Valley you will soon reach the next village with Kurtscheid - this time including a lookout tower. And from then on it goes downhill: The Fockenbachtal lets you immerse yourself in wonderfully hilly meadow landscapes. You pass the Neuerburg castle ruins and cross the Burgseifen. Then you climb - accompanied for a short distance by the lively Fockenbach - via Ackerhof up to Glockscheid. The local St. Marienhaus monastery invites you to take a stroll through its gardens and halls. The terrace promises a magnificent view of the Wiedtal. It is the first possible destination on the Klosterweg. If you haven't had enough, you can hike from here to the parish church “Maria Himmelfahrt” in Waldbreitbach and thus the final destination of today's tour.Tip: To get back to the starting point from the destination of your tour, you can use a shuttle service or hiking bus. You can find information on travel times here: wiedtal.de/fileadmin/regionen/wiedtal/Wandern/Wander-Service/Shuttleservice_Wiedtal.pdf.

The Wäller Tour “Elberthöhen” definitely lives up to its name: while you master a total of 300 meters in altitude - naturally nicely distributed over the almost 16 kilometers of total length of the tour - you can enjoy fabulous views throughout. In all directions and in clear weather even as far as the Feldberg. Therefore, starting from the center of Niederelbert, it also begins directly with an ascent. It goes up to the lookout point "Steinkaut", which gives you wonderful views over the place with its pretty church. From here you stroll mainly through magical forest areas in the direction of Welschneudorf, where you will pass a small refuge and thus only one of the many possible resting places on this tour.If you don't have any provisions with you, don't worry. In Welschneudorf there is a butcher, a bakery and a small supermarket - so there are plenty of opportunities to fill up your hiking backpack for the rest of the way. Then glorious meadows and the lively stilt creek guide you between picturesque fish ponds to the two heights called Röthchen and Hähnchen and finally back to your starting point.

Lots of variety and Waldbreitbach in the Wiedtal from its most beautiful side, this is how this Wäller tour presents itself. Impressive paths lead you up to the Bärenkopp. In doing so, you rarely lose sight of the wonderful Wied. The hiking pleasure starts in a free parking lot on Marktstrasse in the heart of Waldbreitbach. From here you make your way past the international Nativity and Bible Museum towards the forest. A narrow path leads you straight to a slope above the village. While you stroll through the dense trees, you can always enjoy wonderful views of its pretty center.Soon you will be crossing the lively Wied for the first time. Then the ascent begins: In a zigzag you first climb a vegetated lookout rock, a little later then the 304 meters of the Bärenkopp. You can be persuaded to take a break from the viewing bench next to the proud summit cross. You already have most of the vertical meters of this tour behind you.Over panoramic plateaus you pass the outskirts of Verscheid and then march on over meadow and field paths in the direction of Luh-Kapellchen. The neat building invites you to pause for a moment. A little later they will open up in front of you: the neo-Gothic towers of the St. Marienhaus monastery. It pays to visit the mother house of the Waldbreitbach Order of the Franciscan Sisters before you head back towards the starting point via a section of the WesterwaldSteig.

Almost twelve kilometers, almost continuously along rippling water: This is what awaits you on the “Eisenbachtal” Wäller tour. A varied circular route northwest of Nomborn, which is particularly recommended for families with children and - because of its refreshing nature - in summer. It starts at the hiking car park at the Studentenmühle. From here you walk directly towards the edge of the forest and further into the wonderful meadow landscape of the Eisenbachtal. The brook shows the way - as a hiker, you are only too happy to follow its lively course through the picturesque landscape. After a good three kilometers, the Eisenbachtal finally opens. A meadow marks the transition to the Gelbachtal. And that is no less idyllic than its predecessor: The Gelbach accompanies you through a unique landscape, then you also start to climb over the Holbachtal towards the Steinernes Kreuz. Before you end your tour with a possible (and very rewarding) ascent to the promising Bornkasten, you will pass the small chapel “Bildches Eich” and walk under the ICE route Cologne-Frankfurt. However you do it - whether you want to climb the summit or not - you should plan a stop at one of the two mills at the end. The student mill has even been awarded the "Quality Hosts Wanderable Germany" award. So you don't have to go far after your break, but stand directly at the hiking car park and thus the starting point of this tour.

Stage 14 of the WesterwaldSteig shows you the Wiedtal and a little later the Asbach plateau. The starting point of the hike is the tranquil village of Horhausen. 17 kilometers have to be mastered to the stage destination Strauscheid. You leave Horhausen and walk through several small villages down into the Lahr glory. The place Peterslahr is located in the middle of this area, which is a popular destination thanks to its great landscape. You walk a bit along the banks of the Wied and then start your ascent. Trees offer you cool shade and on your way up you always have wonderful views of Mettelshahn Switzerland. So it is always worth stopping and enjoying the great view over the treetops. At the top, the path leads you past Lake Manrother, a crater lake that was formed after basalt was extracted. On the bank you will find some signs with information about the time. Then you hike downhill and through the village of Ammerich into the Langewiesetal. Now it is not far to your final destination oath of oath. Here you can stay in the Westerwälder Hof.

Stage 13 of the WesterwaldSteig will be adventurous - if you want it. You have the chance to climb the Hölderstein via ferrata. But if that doesn't matter to you or you don't have the right equipment with you, there is also a completely normal hiking variant. The 15-kilometer hike through the Grenzbachtal begins in Flammersfeld.Right at the beginning you will pass the small animal park in the village and you can visit the herd of fallow deer, donkeys, geese, chickens and rabbits, which are cared for by the residents on a voluntary basis. Then you hike a beautiful stretch along the Wied. The Grenzbach branches off from the Wied, which you now follow. In a major renaturation project, the Grenzbach valley was rebuilt as the original meadow valley. Robust cattle breeds help to keep the Bachaue open. A wonderful landscape for hiking! On the Grenzbach there is also the Hölderstein, a colossal rock formation overgrown with beech and oak trees with a great view. If you follow the signs for the WesterwaldSteig, you will come up to the mountain on a normal hiking trail. If you are looking for more thrills and would rather try the via ferrata, keep your eyes on the yellow marked access path. The via ferrata is the only one of its kind on the WesterwaldSteig. It is around 250 meters long, covers an altitude of 80 meters and leads you over stirrups, stirrups, pens, three ladders and a bridge. The right climbing equipment is important for use!Whichever path you choose after you have enjoyed the view from the Hölderstein, you continue hiking through the forest and soon along the banks of the Grenzbach again. In the destination Horhausen you will find a small selection of accommodations and several restaurants.

Pure half-timbered romance awaits you on stage 12 of the WesterwaldSteig. You start the 15-kilometer tour in Weyerbusch and on your way to Flammersfeld you will hike through several idyllic places with the characteristic houses. Number one is the half-timbered village of Mehren after six kilometers.Mehren is one of the most beautiful places in the Westerwald. You can even discover half-timbered houses at the Romanesque church from the 12th century. It is not for nothing that Mehren was twice awarded the silver medal in the national competition "Our village should be more beautiful - our village has a future".You continue hiking and you will soon reach Ahlbach, the next pretty little town with half-timbered charm. It continues a bit through the forest until you reach Flammersfeld, the destination of the stage. There you will also discover numerous, pretty half-timbered houses, for example the house where Friedrich Wilhelm Raiffeisen was born.Flammersfeld is a small place, so the choice of overnight accommodations is limited. It is best to look around in advance for a guest house or an inn in Flammersfeld or the surrounding towns.
