The Huskar Memorial Trail

In 1838, the Huskar pit flooded and 26 children tragically lost their lives. This walk visits the site of the mine, the memorial at Silkstone Church and some of Silkstone Parish’s industrial heritage. This walk is around 3.5km or just over 2 miles. Allow a good hour one way. The return is possible on foot or by bus between Silkstone Common and Silkstone Church.

A pleasant walk through the Silkstone countryside leading past the remnants of mine railway lines and long abandoned mine workings before rising to Banks Hall and some lovely views. After this, Banks Bottom Dike, some wild flower meadows and views of Noblethorpe Hall.

An interesting walk that combines historical interest and the lovely parish countryside. The path takes in the stocks, the Silkstone Waggonway and other points of local history in one direction to just past Low Mill Farm and a pretty path that takes in woodland and hedgerow in the other. This walk is 4 km or 2.5 miles and takes about 1.25 hours.. This walk is less affected by mud after prolonged wet weather but in really bad weather a return back up the Waggonway is possible.

A combination of local history, countryside, hill and valley. This walk is 6.25km or 4 miles and takes around 2 hours. After wet weather walking boots are a good idea.

Starting off past Wooley Manor this follows the quiet Blackergreen Lane to Blacker Dam. The path turns up to Kine Moor which has nice views over to Silkstone Common before heading up to the village. The return to Silkstone starts of with the view point of Beacon Hill before skirting the edge of Silverwood. This walk is 6.15km or 3.75 miles and takes 2 hours. After wet weather walking boots are a good idea.

Once Silkstone Common is left behind, this walk is in countryside and takes in some of the less used footpaths. Keep an eye out for wildlife – besides the large numbers of partridges and pheasants there are lots of other creatures who live in this area. This walk is 6.15km or 3.75 miles and takes 2 hours. After wet weather walking boots are a good idea.
