Mega weather, top bikes and good routes - the formula for success for fun on Saturday :-)At Mount7 you can test Cervélo gravel bikes and racing bikes today and there are already planned test routes in the Freiburg area.It was cool to be on a gravel for a change and not always on a mountain bike. Then you get to know the area in a different way!The first round went through the vineyards up towards the snow castle and then down to Ehaben. Across the fields back to Mount7. The second round then through the meadows and forests behind the Rieselfeld, a few meters in altitude, but made for the gravel bike! That was a fun :)

This racing bike tour leads south out of Freiburg. Although it is quite short, it has everything you could wish for: crisp climbs, wonderful views, a rapid descent and finally a section through the beautiful city of Freiburg.Let's go: Our shop is the base camp for this round. Before your calves get busy, roll yourself up for a few minutes in a relaxed, warm manner. But then things get down to business: a steep path through the vineyards really heralds the tour. If you turn around, you can enjoy the first beautiful view! The longest uphill of the round begins behind the small town of Schwabenhof. It leads uphill in places, until finally a magnificent view opens up in front of you. If you are out after work and the timing is right, you can enjoy a wonderful sunset here! And you can look forward to the rest of the tour: Via Schauinslandstraße, you quickly head back towards Freiburg.

This tour is ideal if you want to really accelerate - a little time trial, so to speak. Because it is mostly flat and mostly on back roads with little traffic. Perfect to fully concentrate on your round step! From the bike shop you drive north, past the animal enclosure and under the motorway. You now follow their course more or less parallel until you cross them a second time shortly before Reute. Here you have reached the turning point of the round. In Vörstetten you can enjoy the beautiful half-timbered houses as you rush past and before you know it, you have reached the outskirts of Freiburg again. You leave the airfield and the new football stadium on the left, while you can look forward to the coffee that is waiting for you in the Mount7 store!

This little jaunt takes you towards Kaiserstuhl and through the Upper Rhine Plain. You can switch off on quiet side streets and bike paths and enjoy the beautiful landscape at the same time. Since the route is mostly flat, it is ideal for really pedaling and driving a good cut!But you can look forward to a crisp ascent: the ascent to Tuniberg offers almost exactly 100 meters of difference in altitude - a small wall and the “mountain rating” of this lap. Once at the top, you roll over the Tuniberg Höhenweg, from which you can enjoy a really beautiful view of the Vosges in the west and the Black Forest in the east as well as the Kaiserstuhl, which rises in front of you in the northwest. The Höhenweg spits you out in Gottenheim, where you turn around and drive back to Freiburg through the cozy village of Umkirch (which is well worth a break).

This short round leads in the direction of Luisenhöhe and Horben and takes as many gravelly forest paths with it. In the Freiburg Forest and shortly before the finish in the vineyards south of St. Georgen, a couple of really crisp climbs await you, so that the tour takes just 19 kilometers to almost 500 meters in altitude. After starting at Mount7 you drive flat out of the city for a while until the route turns into the forest and onto the gravel at Merzhausen. The first ascent in the Freiburg Forest is not long in coming - the gravel path up to the Kreuzkopf definitely has the potential to make you sweat. Here you have landed in the middle of nature. The landscape is totally calm and idyllic, again and again you can enjoy wonderful views. Shortly before the end of the tour, it will be particularly nice again when the last steep climb has led you into the vineyards south of Freiburg. From here you have a great view of Freiburg, the Kaiserstuhl and the Vosges - perfect to take a deep breath before the descent back to the starting point is waiting for you.

In the west of Freiburg are the Statdwald Mooswald and the nature reserve "Freiburger Rieselfeld". It's green, quiet and there are all sorts of lakes - in short: It's the perfect terrain for a short, enjoyable gravel tour, with which you can crown your end of work in around an hour.Let's go on Mount7. From here you roll north to the Freiburg district of Rieselfeld. Shortly afterwards you have already reached the nature reserve of the same name. Incidentally, the city's sewage used to be "trickled" here - hence the name. You drive past the Mundenhof, cross under the A5 motorway and immediately after the underpass you reach the first nice opportunity to take a break: Lake Opfing invites you to take a short stop - in good weather you can use the beach to cool off.If you like it quieter, a detour to the Kleiner Opfinger bathing lake is worthwhile - it is a bit more contemplative and also very beautiful here. The third lake in the group is the Arlesheimer See - also very beautiful, but not approved for swimming. The route then leads through the Mooswald-Süd to Wolfenweiler and, parallel to the railway line, back to the starting point of the tour.

A lap made for a speedy gravel runabout! Ascents and descents on gravel and short stretches of asphalt south of Freiburg await you, plus great views over the vineyards. From Mount7 you cycle easily towards Leutersberg, where you cross the railroad tracks and where the route bends to the east. At the same time, the only ascent of the tour that has it all begins. After all, it gives you almost 300 meters of altitude! A great test for your bike and your form. As a reward there is of course a great view over the vineyards and towards the Vosges. The following descent, which is lined with vineyards to the left and right, also ensures enjoyable moments. One more little swerve through the moss forest and you're back at the starting point of the tour.

In a nutshell, because I'm completely exhausted: Our Freiburg 12erlei (all official trails in Freiburg ride twice) was perhaps the toughest challenge I've ever faced. I have really come to my limit, to ride an enduro bike over 4000 meters in altitude and then downhill again on technically demanding trails. Right now I'm just dog tired and I definitely don't want to do that again. Probably in three days I will think very differently about it 😉Addendum 2 days later: I'm fine, I haven't got any sore muscles and now think that it was a pretty cool thing! That's why I wrote a short blog article about what I learned from this challenge: saskimo.de/freiburg-12erlei
