About VISITWallonia

Bonjour Wallonie!

The sixth day and last day of my gravel bikepacking tour in the Ardennes! Although the word "Gravel" should actually be put in quotation marks in this case: On the one hand, the route today led over a RAVeL for a relatively long time, and on the other hand, I was maybe a bit lazy at the beginning of

    1. In the morning at the youth hostel, the first signs of fatigue from the stages of the last few days made themselves felt - which lasted until I tackled the first long climb from Bouillon up into the hills. 😏💪 Always crazy how you can sometimes still think in the morning "oh oh, I don't think today

    1. Tall fields, warm winds, low-flying swallows, small back roads winding through hilly landscapes. Today somehow everything felt very special like summer. 🚲☀️🤌 Or maybe it was the French air?! 😉

A highlight of the stage is definitely the Abbey of Orval. It's one of the six Trappist abbeys in Belgium

    1. Compared to yesterday, today was much more comfortable. Fewer meters in altitude, more asphalt and level paths. Part of my route today even ran along one of these RAVeL paths, and to be honest: that's no longer cycling, that's flying! 🐥

I reached Bastogne just in time for my second breakfast. This is

    1. So I'll put it this way: you have to like altitude meters here! 😁 I don't think it's really flat in the Belgian Ardennes. 😉 ... owww you use the extensive network of great RAVeL cycle paths, which run along old railway lines and towpaths. But my route is probably the opposite of that, and that's a

    1. After walking around Flanders, i.e. the Dutch-speaking part of Belgium, in spring, I'm now on two wheels through Wallonia! 🤠 First difference to my hike: French is spoken. Second difference: There are quite a lot of mountains!!!! 😍🥵 (Well, well... "mountains" of course . 😉)

    1. Relaxed stroll through the Sunday market in Aubel, after lunch gondola again on the Ligne 38 railway line and to the finale on the border triangle 😅. And then off to Aachen to the train station.

    1. Second day of the bicycle press trip in the Herver Land between Aachen and Liège. Motto: delicious. From the raw milk cheese dairy to the juice and cider press and lunch break in the former train station in Herve. Via the beautiful L38 railway path with a detour to the beautiful village of Clermont-sur

    1. Hey, the Ardennes, so beautiful! In Houffalize, we stopped by at the already deserted start of the Chouffe Classics. Then climbed onto a railway line and on line 613 and 163 to Bastogne - mostly only with a slight incline. Discovered a nice café at the RAVeL, ignored a detour, cycled through heavy downpours
