Finally the time had come: my wife and I wanted to hike in the sunrise. Said and done. Early in the morning my wife left Unna for Billmerich while I took the kids to school there by car. There, in Billmerich, I met her again. It was still quite dark, but the sky was slowly changing color. We went through a small forest towards Opherdicke, but then turned towards Schwerte.Just when we could see the Ruhr valley from above, the sun rose. Perfect! We froze slightly, the ground was a bit slippery with frost, the breath was in front of our faces. We remained silent for a few moments to enjoy this moment. Then we continued towards the railway embankment in Schwerte-Geisecke. The morning mist was still hanging over the lake, birds were flying silently over the water. Just lovely. After 10 km we stopped at a bakery in Schwerte. There we treated ourselves to a hearty breakfast with hot coffee. Then it went back. The sun grew stronger, the birds chirped singly. It was like an early spring day. After 4.5 hours of hiking I was back in front of my car. 20 km is also my personal walking distance. My wife kept walking to cover her 30 km (which she did).At home we toasted with a coffee on our successful hike ...

After many, many years I took part in the New Year's Eve run from Werl to Soest. But this time not jogging, but hiking. Next to my wife was our 10 year old son; not only was he very excited, it was his first running competition. The weather was great, not too warm, not too cold. What was irritating, if not disturbing, for me was that many took this sporting event as an occasion for an early New Year's party. With clattering music, they pulled the wagon and beer along the way. Not nice. After the field had spread apart, we were able to enjoy our run with a little more calm. The first runner soon caught up with us, and many followed. We greeted them with applause with respect. In Soest it got loud again and a fantastic atmosphere took us in. As a family, we crossed the finish line hand in hand.

That was the first time I had run over 20km. And that involuntarily. But let's start from the beginning. My wife ran away from home, I accompanied my children by bus to school. There, in Unna-Billmerich, I met my wife again, and then ran together. It was a beautiful clear morning. The sun was rising, here and there early morning mist and colorful leaves in the trees.
We reached the lake at the Bahnwald, not far from Schwerte. A wonderful peace there. Then it went through a sleepy residential area, across wide fields back to Opherdicke. My hope for a coffee was dashed because nothing was up. Little break in the park. Then it went back to Billmerich. There the paths parted. My wife kept walking, I wanted to take the bus. I had already come to my limits. Unfortunately, I missed the bus by 10 minutes. So get a coffee to go from a bakery, and walk further home.

Mittlerweile über 50 Jahre. Joggen klappt nicht mehr so richtig, deshalb versuche ich mich in Radfahren und ganz neu in Trekking.
