We were curious to find out what would happen when we got back on our bikes and started pedalling again - what would our legs have to say after yesterday's adventure? As it turned out, they felt surprisingly good and seemed to agree that a little ride would do them no harm 😁
We headed north towards Die

Originally, we were simply planning to climb Mont Ventoux and then spend the day enjoying the scent of lavender and coffee with a view of the Giant of Provence. But someone told us about this challenge and... there was no turning back. We decided to give it a try.
In 1988, the French Cycling Federation

A rest day in cyclist-packed Bédoin doesn't necessarily mean complete inactivity.
I went for a short ride through the Provençal hills to Vaison-la-Romaine, famous for its Roman ruins and medieval town.
Along the way, I was accompanied by ever-changing views of Mont Ventoux, impossibly dominant in the landscape

We continued south along the Durance Valley, leaving behind the white Alpine peaks and immersing ourselves in the greenery of the Baronnies. The Baronnies are part of a chain of pre-Alpine massifs west of the Durance Valley - a land of rolling hills and mountains, hilltop villages and isolated farms

Today’s journey along the Durance River, largely following the La Durance à Vélo cycle route, was absolutely neither flat nor boring 🤩 It would probably win a competition called: “If you could only ride one route in your life, this would be it…”
To quote France Vélo Tourisme:
“It unfolds a magnificent

We reached Susa after a long journey by train and were relieved to get on the bikes. The bikes were heavier than usual, loaded with luggage for the next few days. It took a few kilometres before our legs woke up and remembered what to do. The road was quite pleasant and mostly empty, as most cars were

From the “To Do Bellinzona” collection, we picked an innocent-looking loop above Lake Como today.
We reached Menaggio quickly, managed to enjoy some excellent ice cream, and boarded the ferry to Varenna. Both towns were impossibly crowded, so we escaped into the mountains with relief - to Passo di Agueglio

Pié del Sasso and Lago di Luzzone had been waiting for the right company. I had been to Pié not long ago, but never to Luzzone Dam.
The strong north wind and the steep climbs didn’t make life easy, but somehow everything felt lighter together 🔗🥰
It was snowing over the high mountains, and we even got

The forecast said ☀️☀️☀️ so how could I miss a day like this, especially with the next two expected to be cold, grey and rainy?
Passo San Bernardino had opened only a few days ago after winter. I hoped that on a regular weekday it would stay quiet. Besides, I wanted to take Swiss cycle route no. 6, which

I had good intentions to take a longer route after work, since it had been raining in the morning and the weather was rather miserable - perfect for an early project meeting 😆
But reality showed me quite clearly where my place was today - ideally here 🛌
Still, I went out.
I enjoyed riding through the

Ticino was drowning in rain today 🌧🌧🌧 so my dry shelter became the northern side of the Alps 💚 It was only supposed to be a short flat ride by Vierwaldstättersee, but when the rain reached there too, I headed in the opposite direction - towards blue skies 💙 and… climbs 😬↗️⛰️ Riding without a track

I woke up at dawn just in case yesterday’s crazy idea had disappeared overnight. Turns out it was still there and doing perfectly well 😁 So what else could I do? I jumped on a train, and not long afterwards I was already pedalling towards Lucomagno.
The sun was still hiding behind the mountains, sending

The morning quickly verified my plans and forced me to redraw the route in a hurry… Dense fog outside the window, and from midday onwards thunderstorms moving across the whole Jura range, heading straight for a collision with me ⛈️⏩️🚵♂️
It started quite atmospherically - riding in fog has its charm

The name Vercors is relatively recent. Until the mid-20th century, the area was known as the Quatre Montagnes — the Four Mountains. But I truly love its unofficial name: the Fortress 🏰
We climbed into it via the long switchbacks of the magnificent Col de Rousset, waving goodbye to the lavender fields
