Starting from Edolo, the climb begins immediately: the ascent is practically continuous from the first few meters. The gradients are regular but not gentle, with a slight respite only shortly before Ponte di Legno, where the road eases up briefly and you can regain some momentum.
From Ponte di Legno onwards

After reaching Kurunegala by train from Batticaloa, I pedaled to Kandy along a main road, well-paved but quite busy, especially in the initial stretches.
The route winds through hills, jungle, and mountains, in a setting typical of the heart of Sri Lanka. The central climb is challenging, especially with

I didn't expect it, but I managed to leave Polonnaruwa thanks to a local mechanic who, with makeshift tools, managed to fix a spoke on the wheel I'd broken the night before. A small miracle that saved the stage.
This route was a truly long one, with very few points of interest along the way. You ride

The transfer stage from Sigiriya to Polonnaruwa, about 60 km, was driven almost entirely on paved roads, by choice, to maintain a good pace and arrive early to visit the archaeological site.
When we talk about a main road in Sri Lanka, we certainly don't mean a highway: trucks, tuk-tuks, tractors, and

Leaving Sigiriya, the goal was to reach two truly fascinating sites off the beaten tourist track: the great Buddha of Avukana and the more hidden Ras Vehera Buddha.
The route was a bit unclear at first: I had some difficulty orienting myself, but once I found the right direction, the ride was a real pleasure

A beautiful ride of about 40 km round trip, from Sigiriya to the archaeological site of the rock-carved Buddhas of Polonnaruwa.
I rode the first part on the main road to get there faster and have time to visit. The asphalt is good, the traffic is manageable, and the route is very easy to ride, with long

The ride from Anuradhapura to Sigiriya was truly a thrilling one. About 80 kilometers of pure discovery, tackled on a long, slow, and steady climb: never steep, but ever-present, almost imperceptible... but every inch was well worth it.
Except for a few stretches on the main road, the route unfolded almost

Don't do it, go to the beach! 😂 The horseflies will feel lonely but they will survive.
