About Katie-Jane L'Herpiniere
I'm a British adventure girl living in the French Alps, addicted to 'Type 2 Fun'.You can usually find me on a road bike, or somewhere remote on a mountain bike loaded with bikepacking bags. If I leave the two wheels behind, then I will still be up a mountain somewhere, just hiking, ski touring, snowshoeing or wild camping. I have completed over 28,000km of unsupported human-powered expeditions and am a qualified Expedition Leader.instagram.com/katiejaneendurance

Crossing the entirety of the Jura Mountains, it connects the 3 departments of Doubs, Jura and Ain in 420 km of mountains, forests and meadows. Although this route would appeal to all…

Fancy tackling a couple of the big gravel passes in the Italian Alps? If so then the Colle del Colombardo and the Colle delle Finestre are two classics to add to your bucket list! You can either take on the 100 kilometres and 3,800 metres of climbing in one big day, or split it over two days as I did…

I woke to expect a rainy start to the day but was delighted to find the weather had moved through during the night. It was still grey and overcast rather than the bluebird days I had had previously, but with the cloud coverage came warmer temperatures, so I was able to set off looking a little more like…

Waking up without any frost on the outside of my tent and no condensation on the inside was a real treat, as it meant I could pack everything away dry and there would be no need for a mid-day drying session. It was still pitch black and freezing cold when I set off, but the stars above were enough to…

I was up and about as dawn broke. There was a serious frost and my watch read -3 degrees Celsius, so I packed up camp in a speedy fashion in a bid to keep warm. The sunrise was beautiful, made even more spectacular by the sea of cloud/mist below me on the valley floor.
Unfortunately, I had to head down…
