For August Bank holiday I took the opportunity of a long weekend to explore a part of the country I had never visited before, with no route planned I sought local advice and followed my nose down to the North Pennines.

My #12HoursofMay ride celebrated the Peak District's big birthday, the UK's first National Park established 70 years ago in 1951, by passing 70 ancient, veteran and notable trees en route, as mapped by the Woodland Trusts' Ancient Tree Inventory.
Ancient trees are hundreds of years old, it was great to
