The ride from El Capitan to Santa Barbara was a short one that allowed me to get proper rest before the last day of my tour. I stayed in a motel in Carpinteria just outside of Santa Barbara. The small town gave me the feeling of having arrived in Southern California. The palm trees along the beach boulevards

My nose was running and my left eye felt like it had sand in it when I woke up. I just wanted to get on the road and hoped this would make me feel better soon. After Orcutt the PCH became a freeway. With the one exception in Nevada, a was able to avoid the freeways on the tour. I thought that it was

I originally planned to do some wine tasting in Cambria and Paso Robles, both famous for their vineyards, but then rejected the idea, since this wouldn’t be much fun to do this alone on a bike. Therefore I stayed close to the coast while driving toward Pismo Beach and made a longer stop in Morro Bay

I started a bit later, as usual, today since it would be a short ride to Cambria today which would allow me to catch up with things back home. After the exciting ride on the cliffs, the road gradually flattened and became even with the ocean. I made only a few stops along the beach, watched the sea elephants

The route from Monterey to Big Sur was one I was looking forward to from the point I decided to take a northern route across the states towards LA. It's my favorite car drive, and I was curious if I can enjoy it equally on a bike despite the traffic and a missing bike path. - And I did. The whole ride

The fog stayed with me for the first couple of hours of the day. I took it easy on the 70km stretch around Monterey bay and was planning to get some work done and spend some time in Monterey. When I reached the city, the sky had opened up and I enjoyed some time on the ocean front and cannery road, before

So far I spend 6500km on the road. That's 200km more than I spend on the plane from Zurich to New York. It feels a bit unreal and at the same time, I feel like it was just yesterday when I was standing at JFK, unsure how to exit the airport by bike.
After a longer break in SF, it wasn’t easy to get back

I still felt tired from the long ride of the previous day when I left Fallon in the morning and was looking for a day that would allow meto recover. Hence I didn't know how far I would bike today and was thinking to take an easy ride to Carson City. My good friend Allison had told me the day before that

Hell yes! I just crossed a f… desert. The 180km stretch from Astin to Fallon was one of those I had the most respect from and would conclude the almost 900km ride through Nevada's high desert. It was basically one long street through the desert with one rest area/ bar in the middle.
Fortunately, there

Eureka! I made it to the ACL Western Express Route, or how it’s advertised by the local tourist organization as „the loneliest highway of America“. And indeed what used to be the route of the settlers that were looking for silver and gold has lost its significance since the gold rush. Towns are widely

I started with pain again in the morning. My left eye was difficult to keep open. Anyhow after a few miles, the pain would become less and eventually leave my consciousness.
The ride to Oxnard was mainly along the coastline on proper bike paths. I passed strawberry fields, which reminded me of the short
