Da Gare de Palmela até Rio Frio - The Rider Brothers
Sunday Ride – Palmela ➝ Rio Frio ➝ Poceirão 🚲 This morning’s ride started at the train station of Palmela, with one simple destination in mind: the vast lands of Rio Frio. Pedaling through the quiet countryside, we soon reached the historic Herdade de Rio Frio, once one of the most important agricultural estates in Portugal. In the late 19th century, the visionary farmer José Maria dos Santos transformed these lands into an agricultural powerhouse. The estate expanded to tens of thousands of hectares and even hosted what was considered one of the largest continuous vineyards in the world. It was not just farmland - it was a small rural world with houses for workers, a school, hospital, chapel, and recreational society.. Today, however, the story feels very different. After decades of financial problems, ownership disputes, and an insolvency process in 2017, much of the estate fell into decline and abandonment. Workers lost jobs, buildings deteriorated, and a place that once symbolized agricultural innovation became a silent reminder of how fragile great projects can be when management fails.. In front of the small chapel inside the estate we stopped for our traditional Rider Brothers ritual: ☕ coffee 🥐 something sweet and a moment to enjoy the calm of the Alentejo-like landscape… just a few kilometers from Lisbon. From there we rode on toward the quiet village of Poceirão, following the railway line until reaching the train station. Our mission: to find the old, forgotten trains resting silently beside the tracks. Standing there, looking at those abandoned carriages, it was impossible not to think about the importance of railways in Portugal. For more than 168 years, trains have connected cities, people, and economies across the country.. And yet, despite that legacy, Portugal still lags behind many European countries in railway development. In recent decades the national rail network actually shrunk by around 18%, while investment in roads expanded dramatically. Entire lines closed and many communities lost access to trains.. Looking at those old trains in Poceirão, we couldn’t help but wonder: Railways were essential in the past. They are clearly essential for the future - sustainable, efficient, and capable of connecting regions. The real question is… when will Portugal fully believe in its own railway potential again? Until then, the Rider Brothers will keep exploring these forgotten corners of our history - one ride at a time. 🚲 Palmela 🚲 Rio Frio 🚲 Poceirão ☕ Coffee break at the chapel 📸 Old trains and old stories Another morning, another ride, another discovery. — The Rider Brothers

Gâmbia & Praias do Sado by The Rider Brothers
🌅 Sunday Ride – Silence, Tides & the Soul of the Sado This morning’s ride took us toward one of the quietest and most magical corners of our region: Praias do Sado and Herdade da Gâmbia. As we rolled along the estuary paths, the landscape slowly revealed the soft colours of an early spring morning. The tide was low — the perfect moment to witness one of the hidden spectacles of the Sado Estuary. Large patches of sand and mudflats appeared, turning the area into a natural feeding ground for dozens of birds. And what a moment it was. No traffic. No crowds.Just the gentle sound of the wind and the constant calls of birds searching for breakfast. At low tide, this estuary becomes a paradise for wildlife. Herons, egrets, and other waders move gracefully across the shallow waters, taking advantage of the rich ecosystem that the Sado Estuary Natural Reserve protects. It’s one of the most important wetlands in Portugal — not just for birds, but for the delicate balance between land, river, and ocean. Our coffee (& sweet) stop happened in the most Rider Brothers way possible:a tiny natural beach in Gâmbia, almost deserted, where time seems to slow down. Only three or four early risers were there, quietly collecting oysters and clams, a tradition deeply connected with the history of the Sado. Few people know that the Sado oysters were once famous across Europe.During the late 19th and early 20th centuries, the estuary was one of the largest oyster production centers on the continent. Thousands of oysters were harvested here and exported mainly to France, where they were highly prized. Although disease and environmental pressures nearly wiped out this activity in the 1970s, the oyster culture of the Sado is slowly returning today. Small local producers are bringing back sustainable oyster farming, proving once again how rich and unique this estuary ecosystem truly is. Standing there, coffee in hand, watching the quiet rhythm of the tide and the birds feeding in the distance, it was easy to understand why this place matters so much. The Sado Estuary isn’t just a beautiful landscape — it’s a living natural heritage. And mornings like this remind us why we ride. 🚲Ride. Discover. Protect. #TheRiderBrothers #SundayRide #SadoEstuary #PraiasDoSado #HerdadeDaGâmbia #NatureRide #EbikesPortugal #RideAndExplore

Pegões Gare # Rider Brothers
Early Morning Gravel Escape -. Setúbal → Pegões-Gare 🌲🚴♂️ by The Rider Brothers We rolled out from Setúbal at first light with one rule only: always gravel. Destination? Pegões-Gare. The day was absolutely lovely, but the terrain reminded us quickly that beauty sometimes demands skill. Wet patches, loose stones, sandy sections. - some stretches required proper technical riding. And this is exactly where the Engwe M20 and M1 shine. The throttle is not about speed. It’s about confidence. Having that instant support when you need to clear a tricky climb, power through deep gravel, or react to an unexpected obstacle makes all the difference. It gives you control, stability, and peace of mind - especially when riding remote countryside roads. That’s when you truly understand the value of a reliable e-bike. 🌾 Pegões. - A Land Built on Agriculture Pegões has deep agricultural roots. Decades ago, it became known for structured farming settlements, vineyards, and livestock. The region played a key role in agricultural development in the Setúbal district, with organized farming communities shaping its identity. Today, agriculture remains central - vineyards, cork oak landscapes, livestock, and mixed farming still define the scenery. Riding through these lands feels like traveling through a living chapter of Portuguese rural history - tradition evolving, but never disappearing. 🌲 The Pine Forest Moment One of the highlights? Crossing a magnificent pine forest. Tall trees, filtered morning light, that unmistakable scent of resin in the air - absolutely magical. It was there, surrounded by silence and birdsong, that we stopped for our traditional coffee and sweet break. ☕🍰 Pure Rider Brothers ritual. 🛣️ 75 km of gravel fun 🎧 Non-stop conversation thanks to our Sena Pi intercoms 🐐 Goats, cows, and countless birds keeping us company 🚴♂️ Two Engwe machines performing flawlessly Another ride. Another memory. Gravel, nature, friendship - and the certainty that the best roads are often the unpaved ones. #RiderBrothers #GravelRide #Pegoes #EngweM20 #EngweM1 #Setubal

Moita 2.0
Morning Ride — Palmela → Moita → Gaio-Rosário 🌊🚴♂️ An early start from Palmela with Moita and Gaio-Rosário as our destination. The roads were still soaked from the recent rain, forcing us onto some technical sections — challenging, yes, but incredibly beautiful and full of character. As we reached the riverside, the Tagus River was at low tide, revealing the vast estuary landscape. A paradise for birdlife near the salt pans and the oyster purification center — calm, wild, and simply stunning. Of course, no Rider Brothers adventure is complete without our traditional coffee and sweet break, this time facing a peaceful little beach. ☕🍰 64 km of pure joy — great conversations, fresh air, a few raindrops for seasoning, and that unbeatable feeling of freedom on two wheels. Both the Engwe M1 and M20 performed flawlessly, as always — handling wet surfaces and unexpected obstacles like true champions. Another unforgettable morning ride. Another story written on the road. #RiderBrothers #MorningRide #Ebikes #Engwe #TejoEstuary #PortugalByBike #FatTireAdventure

Homenagem a Landeira # Rider Brothers
Sunday Morning Ride to Landeira 🌦️🚴♂️ After the heavy storms Kristin, Leonardo, and Marta — which caused so much destruction and flooding across Portugal — the weather finally gave us a small but precious break. The strong winds calmed down, the rain eased, and with caution (and respect for what nature had just shown us), the Rider Brothers decided it was time to roll again. Destination: Landeira. As always, we chose secondary roads to avoid traffic, mixed with some gravel sections. Along the way, we had to make a few last-minute decisions due to unexpected accumulated water — adapting the route on the fly, exactly how real adventures go. Even with Komoot well planned, nature always has the final word. Those adjustments turned what was supposed to be a “normal” ride into a solid 84 km journey. Honestly? That was the absolute limit for our two batteries — both on the M20 and M1. Soft terrain drained more power than expected, and even riding carefully (PAS 1–2 for me, PAS 2–3 for my brother), we arrived right on the edge. Pedaling without assistance? Forget it 😅 I tried for the last 2 km… not pleasant at all. Lesson learned ✔️ For close-to-range-limit rides, our third battery is a must and should not have stayed at home. But more than that, we’re reminded once again that e-bike adventures are all about adjusting and adapting — especially to terrain and conditions. When we reached Landeira, halfway through the ride, we stopped for our traditional coffee break and sweet celebration ☕🍰 — a small ritual that always feels well deserved. Today is also Presidential Election day in Portugal, and that was part of the reason we chose such a small place, mostly with an older population. We wanted to see how an election morning feels where life moves slower, surrounded by nature, where community still matters deeply. A long ride, a real test, a meaningful destination — and another Sunday morning well lived. 🇵🇹✨ The road teaches. We just keep listening. — The Rider Brothers #TheRiderBrothers #RidewithEngwe #setubal #portugal

Da Estação de Palmela ao Samouco # The Rider Brothers
The Rider Brothers - 65km or 5h- doesn’t matter! This was never a competition 😉 One quiet winter morning on two e-bikes. We departed early from Palmela Train Station, under a sky that couldn’t decide what it wanted to be. Heavy clouds above us, light rain teasing us along the way - the kind of weather that usually keeps people indoors… and pushes us to ride 🚴♂️⚡ The route was carefully planned on Komoot, even though this is a destination we already know well. New gravel roads, muddy stretches, silent woods, and endless vineyards reminded us why planning + curiosity always beats routine. Along the way, we were never really alone. Donkeys watching us pass. Horses calmly grazing. Roosters announcing villages before we could see them. And for the first time ever… llamas. Yes, llamas. Curious, calm, and completely unexpected - proof that every ride still holds a “first”. We finally reached Samouco Beach - a place that is always special to us. Quiet, raw, and deeply connected to the Tagus Estuary, where land, river, and sky meet. Last year, this place taught us an inspiring life lesson… but that story deserves its own chapter. Soon. 🌊 As tradition dictates, we stopped for our coffee and something sweet, right next to a traditional Tagus boat. These boats once carried salt, wine, and goods across the estuary - silent witnesses of centuries when the river was Portugal’s main highway. From there, we explored. Views over the white church and buildings of Samouco - white not by chance, but to reflect heat and light in times when summers were harsher and life simpler. A visit to the lighthouse, small but symbolic, reminding us that even short lights can guide long journeys. Riding through the traditional streets of Alcochete, we felt the village come alive. Restaurants preparing for the day, locals chatting, doors opening. Alcochete has always been tied to the river - fishermen, shipbuilders, salt workers - and that soul is still there, if you slow down enough to notice. Time to head back home. A different route, of course. No busy roads. More gravel. More mud. More smiles. Almost 5 hours of riding, talking, laughing - unfazed by the cold and wet Portuguese winter morning. Because comfort isn’t about weather. It’s about rhythm, connection, and sharing the road with someone who rides at the same pace as your thoughts. This wasn’t just a 65 km ride. It was another reminder that Portugal is best discovered slowly - and slightly muddy. The Rider Brothers 🤍 #TheRiderBrothers #RidewithEngwe #engweM20 #engwem1 #samouco

Descobrir Praias do Sado # The Rider Brothers
First ride of 2026. First breath of silence. 🌅🚴♂️⚡ Taking advantage of the low tide on this early Sunday morning, The Rider Brothers headed out to absorb the positive energy of the Sado River Natural Estuary, exploring Herdade da Gâmbia and the peaceful Praias do Sado. With the river stretching alongside us, the views were simply breathtaking. The estuary was alive: elegant flamingos, herons and storks gliding over the water, while the banks revealed rich vegetation, reeds, salt marshes and the unique flora that makes this place so special. As always, our route was carefully planned with Komoot, guiding us through amazing paths far from paved roads. Just dirt tracks, silence, and the constant soundtrack of birds - a true connection with Mother Nature, where time slows down and every kilometer is meant to be felt. 70 km of pure joy. No effort, just smooth riding and a long, meaningful conversation between The Rider Brothers - made even better thanks to our intercoms, sharing thoughts, laughs and plans for the year ahead. And of course, the ride wouldn’t be complete without the usual encounters: horses, donkeys, goats, cows and even chickens, always a reminder of how alive and authentic these places are. 2026 has officially begun - and it already feels exactly how we hoped it would. 🌿✨ #TheRiderBrothers #ebike #setubal #sadoriver #portugal #engweM20 #engwem1

Palmela - Barreiro # Rider Brothers
The Rider Brothers — From Trails to Tides: Riding into Barreiro 🌿🌊 (Part I) Today, The Rider Brothers set out with a clear idea: explore Barreiro and reach one of its hidden gems — the Moinhos da Alburrica. Departing early from Setúbal / Palmela, we challenged ourselves once again to do what we love most: avoid paved roads completely. What followed was a beautiful 70 km journey through gravel paths, sandy tracks, a bit of mud, and endless riverside views — fully embracing nature from the first pedal stroke to the last. Barreiro welcomed us with its unique character. Once a strong industrial hub, deeply connected to railways, factories, and shipyards, the city has reinvented itself over the years. Today, its riverfront is open, green, and inviting, offering calm paths, wide horizons over the Tagus, and a slower rhythm that feels perfect for riding. The closer we got to the water, the more the landscape softened. Birds everywhere, reflections dancing on the river, and that unmistakable feeling that we were heading somewhere special. And we were. Ahead of us waited a place where history and nature still work side by side. 🚴♂️🌿 #TheRiderBrothers #engwe #RidewithEngwe #engweM20. #engwem1 #ebike #Barreiro #portugal #RiverfrontRide #EbikeAdventure The Rider Brothers. — Moinhos da Alburrica: Where History Meets the River 🏞️⚙️ (Part II) Reaching the Moinhos da Alburrica always feels like stepping into another time. These historic tidal mills date back several centuries and were once essential to the local economy. Powered by the rhythm of the tides, they used the natural rise and fall of the river to grind grain — a brilliant example of how people once worked with nature, not against it. Their location, right on the edge of the estuary, is no coincidence: water, wind, and patience did all the work. Today, the mills stand as silent witnesses to the past, surrounded by wetlands rich in birdlife and framed by wide open skies. It’s a place that invites you to stop, breathe, and imagine the lives that once depended on these walls. Of course, no Rider Brothers ride is complete without our traditional coffee and sweet break, enjoyed this time in Barreiro, before deciding to do something different — a relaxed and tasty stop at a beautifully located Mexican restaurant, proving once again that good rides deserve good food. Different terrains, different flavors, one constant feeling: freedom, curiosity, and the joy of discovering new places together. Some rides are about speed. Others, like this one, are about stories. 🚴♂️⚙️🌊 #TheRiderBrothers #engwe #RidewithEngwe #engweM20. #engwem1 #ebike #Barreiro #MoinhosDaAlburrica #portugal #RiverfrontRide #EbikeAdventure
