We arrived with the ferry from Athens early in the morning and crossed from Iraklio to the Southern part of the Island in Sivas, Matala. 5 km before our destination we’ve found a lonely puppy sitting lost and starving between olive trees. He was abandoned and super hungry! We took him to our apartement and warmed and fed him.

Our last 45 kilometers in turkey, one last delicious Börek, spending our last few Liras to feed the dogs with Pedigree dog food. Final destination was Ayvalik, a pretty cool and alternative city. Took the ferry to Mytilini, Lesbos, where we will spend few days. Back in Europe finally!!

We just stayed in Izmir for one night and had a last Turkish dinner with Pide and Mercimek Corba (Linsensuppe). Today we took a ferry to the other side of Izmir and then a train outside the city to skip the stressful City- Speckgürtel and due to our tight time schedule. Tomorrow is our last day in Turkey 🇹🇷 ❤️

After Waking up on the most scenic campspot at a bird sanctuary lake, we had strong headwinds on the road, but as soon as we reached the mountain pass road, wind was gone and we enjoyed the silence of the forest! In Selcuk we hopped on a train to reach Izmir to skip 50km, because time is running. Standing in the crowded train, seeing all the people starring in their phones, no one is interacting which each other, gave us a little taste of how it is to be back in a bigcity life- but public transportation with a (fully packed) bicycle is always a pain :))

Startet before sunrise, even before supermarkets opened, passed by hundreds of olive trees, a lot of altitude for 88km, stopped here and there to feed little baby cats with deluxe cat-smoothies :) and ended on a beautiful lake (Bafa Gülü) which is a bird sanctuary 🐦 Over 200 different kinds of birds live here, some only stay for the winter or for resting on their way to Africa/Asia

We thought we would have some easy going days along the coast til Izmir, but realized that the Ferry to Lesbos goes actually from Ayvalik, which is 160 km further north from Izmir. It tightens our schedule, but still doable :)) Sleeping at a closed campsite today.

Akyaka is a great hidden treasure on the southwest coast of turkey, it’s known for its kitesurfing, really laid back and beautiful. The coast road is super beautiful starting from there, pine trees, turquoise water, salty wind, really feels like holiday now.
