THE DARTMOOR DEVIL 2025 Dear rider, Not long now! Your start time is 9am, so please check-in between 8:15 and 8:50. (Don't forget that the clocks will have just gone back!). Please read the notes below carefully. Start and finish This year’s Devil will start and finish at The Cromwell Arms (postcode TQ13 9AE) in Bovey Tracey. There is plenty of space for bike parking in the pub's car park, but please don’t try and park a car there - use the town’s public car parks (see the information sheet for directions). The town's car parks do charge on Sundays, but it's only £2.00 for the day. Princetown After many years of stopping at Fox Tor Café, this year's Princetown control is at The Plume Of Feathers. For those of you who have ridden far too many Devils, switch off your auto-pilot in Princetown. Cattle grids, potholes gravel, stables and other hazards There are a lot of potholes and broken road on sections of the route, as well as a lot of gravel and muck, some of which are highlighted on the route sheet. The route includes a few cattle grids which can be slippery and claimed at least two riders on a recent Devil. On the descent into Widecombe after the cake stop, the route passes a stable. Please take care on this descent as it has numerous potholes, is slippery and may contain horses. You must give way to horses and when passing one, ask first and make sure that the horse is aware of your presence - maybe with a cheery 'Hi, is it ok to pass please'. As well as being mucky, some of the lanes have hedge clipping so it would be best not to skimp on puncture repair essentials. The final descent from Haytor Rocks to Bovey Tracey is fast, twisty, single lane in places, has a cattle grid part way down and towards the bottom there is a T junction that isn't signed in advance. As well as all of the above, there are numerous other moorland hazards including animals on the road, sharp bends, steep slippery and narrow roads and potentially cold and wet conditions with weather that can change rapidly. Please take care and be considerate towards all other road users. It isn't a race! Food! Free tea and coffee will be available at the start. Homemade cakes will be available at Cold East Cross to raise funds for Devon Air Ambulance. There will be a collection box at Cold East Cross and at the finish and donations would be very welcome - please bring some change, or we can take card payments for donations at the end. A roll, and vegan and GF soup will be provided at the control at The Northmore Arms at Wonson. Later on the route, food can be bought from the Post Office Stores in Postbridge, at the control at The Plume of Feathers in Princetown and from Princetown Stores/Post Office. At the finish, food will be available to buy at The Cromwell Arms, as well as liquid refreshments of course.
