We wanted to get to Gletsch, but the windy conditions had us turn around 1km before our originally planned destination. What a fun trail other than that! We felt challenged, passed a technical part, it was everything we could have wished for in the final hike of our vacation.

We wanted to attempt a detour to Gletsch but it was too late so we turned around. The initial hike was a little too easy for our taste so we enjoyed the more challenging path after the hotel Rhonequelle. We will attempt the full path up to Gletsch by daylight again.

A truly beautiful hike today, offering incredible high-alpine scenery. However, be warned: this is only for the very fit and experienced at this time of year! The challenge began around 1850m, where we hit a significant stretch (nearly 2km) of deep, unbroken snow. We were pushing through knee-deep drifts, and it required every bit of our fitness and experience to safely make it through. If you plan on tackling this before the snow melts, snowshoes are highly recommended—don't attempt this ill-prepared!
