Tuscany Trail - day 5
Last day of this amazing experience. Never tired of seeing medieval castles on top of hills, olive groves, cypress lined road and those dusty fun strade bianche.

Tuscany Trail - day 4
This was a new optional addition to TT. An arduous tour of the Chianti hills. Very different Tuscan environment from the two days before. These are dark green woodland, Chianti vineyards take a small part of the wilderness. Little boroughs on top on hills appear from nowhere.
But it was…

Tuscany Trail - day 3
A ride in classical Tuscany. Through vineyards, olive groves, cypress lined strade bianche.
Passed through Siena via its amazing 'square'.
Now, why would one buy one kilogram of pecorino cheese to carry for the rest 3 days on a loaded bike it's not really clear...

Tuscany Trail - day 2
Left the sea side. Relatively easy ride on road and strade bianche. Little towns dot the way.
Stopped in the best restaurant of the trail, a real tuscan feast at Paganico.

From Pisa to the Tuscany Trail - day 1
Could not take the train from Pisa to the start of the TT... So I cycled there. It made the day fairly short, but it was an amazing day. Lovely seaside... cannot stop for swimming! Exceptionally fun gravel.

Airolo to Milan
Most beautiful descent from Airolo. Perfect tarmac allows crazy speeds on the 600m descent. After that one crosses some pretty part of the Canton Ticino (the Italian speaking side of Switzerland). Until one arrives to the big southern cities of Bellinzona and Lugano. The roads are definitely busier than the…

Basel through Switzerland ending below the Gottardo pass
Left Saint Louis (on the french part of Basel so I had a decent Boulangerie for breakfast), entered Basel, exit in Germany. Rode by the river Rhine and re-entered Switzerland, direction Zurich.
Facilities are very good, water, WCs, good amount of cycling ways, but during peak time you may be…

Lunéville, the Vosges, Alsace and Basil
The massif of the Vosges are an oddity in the flat French landscape. They rise from nowhere and are really tough, like the people inhabiting these areas. Long steep climb to reach Col du Bonhomme, with long 15% climbs.
For the descent a candle to Saint Shimano is light in…

Arlon, Luxembourg, the Moselle path, to Lunéville.
Left the harsh Ardennes, one drops to the rolling Luxembourgese hills, fat cows, fast cars, but the most respectful people I have seen (for cyclists). A final hill and Luxembourg becomes France.
A very unremarkable road to Thionville, one joins the absolute beautiful Moselle cycle path. Miles and miles of…
