Great hike along the creek up to beautiful alpine lakes. Very moderate elevation gain spread out nicely so you don't really notice you are going up.

Fairly easy hike along creek with almost total shade. Trail ends at forest road 252. It is a rocky and rutted road that you can take up to Millers' Rock. Great views from atop the Rock. Popular trail with parking for about 40 vehicles, so go early (before 8am). No bathrooms or trash cans at trailhead. If you take your dog be prepared to carry out their waste. Follow leave no trace principles, leave it better than you found it.

THIS IS ONLY FOR SEGMENT FROM CARIBOU LAKE TO TRAILHEAD. TOTAL HIKE IS ABOUT 9 MILES. Intermediate hike. Small section of snow on switchbacks down to Caribou Lake. Camping requires a permit and you must camp in one of the 12 designated spots that are marked with a sign. No campfires allowed. Dogs must be on leash, saw two large moose cows in area. Abide by leave no trace principles. Caught a nice cutthroat in stram running from lake.

Started at lot off Vindicator, took Ute Valley Regional to Rattlesnake Ridge to Triple Threat to Winding Willow loop to BeaUTEiful Loop and then Ute Valley Regional back to lot Great hike, lots of views along Rattlesnake Ridge. Well maintained. Considerable mountain bike traffic.
A local stopped us when we parked and suggested going up Belvedere instead of Hondo. It was shady and went through the neighborhood. It dead-ends at the start of the trail. Trail was in great condition. Moose scat throughout the meadow area but we saw no moose. Trail closed just before reservoir due to maintenance work.
Route is roughly 8 miles, went wrong way on Captain Jack's and had to back track, which increased recorded elevation gain and mileage. Total gain was about 1700. Bear Creek is great, shaded entire way but 1500 feet of gain as trail is all uphill. Trail ends at a faint waterfall due to trail maintenance
