Today we passed by the renatured gravel banks. Nowadays, sandpipers and plovers breed here. The whole thing unspectacular, but interesting from a geological and ecological perspective.
For a short stretch, there was a real forest path. Otherwise, gravel forest roads😐

After yesterday's rain (30 mm), the Lech today was not a turquoise-green mountain river, but a brown, powerful mass.
The path led most of the way away from the river as a high-level trail over gravel forest roads or stony paths. A bit tiring.

The first quarter was a beautiful high-altitude trail.
Then the unspectacular descent on gravel forest roads. Along the river again very beautiful.
To be highlighted is the cheese dairy in Steeg. Super ice cream! And cheese, sausage, and wine for a nice evening.
The suspension bridge in the photo is blocked

From Holzgau, behind the church, a barren, asphalted path leads up to the suspension bridge (variant of the Lechweg). The actual Lechweg runs below the bridge to the waterfall. We created our own variant and went up a rustic, steep forest path to the right to the bridge, having to walk it in both directions

The Lech disappears into a canyon, so it is not visible for a while. But then, a beautiful view of the river. The path is mostly gravel, but also leads over packed earth and root paths. It can become slippery in wet weather. Good thing the big climb towards the end runs in the shady woods.
Along the way

A very beautiful hike. Very varied. Hiking poles are advisable in sections. You can see the river grow beautifully.
Partly, the trail runs on both sides of the Lech. At one point we were led astray. On the right side, the trail has to take a detour due to a new golf course. This adds 60-70m of altitude

The trail is called "Waterfall Trail," but it's more of a series of rapids. Nevertheless, it's beautiful to look at. Sometimes the river forms pools. The banks are swampy and muddy. Accordingly, the trail then passes further away, so you don't miss anything.
Overall, it's a bit tiring in the long run

Today was a rest day. So it was just a short and easy hike.
When you hike into the valley, it feels like Hobbitland or a fairytale.
Glaciers, rugged cliffs, strangely shaped mountains. It's not for nothing that this area is called Trollheimen (home of the trolls).
And in the middle of it all, by a lake

Norway's first Christian king, Olav, walked from Oslo to Trondheim (for whatever reason). He was later canonized, and this path became a pilgrimage route, as important to Scandinavians as the Way of St. James is to the rest of Europe. It was restored in the 1990s and is now a national heritage site.

: Caution! In Füssen, the beer evaporates before it even reaches the table.
