Today we went north to Koethen. The first section is one of the most beautiful routes for me, as it leads through the almost natural Unterspreewald. The change from established alder forests, which have meanwhile been overgrown, to old oaks and meadows as well as the associated watercourses is unique and almost completely natural.
We continued via Krausnick to the seven Köthen Heideseen at the foot of the Krausnicker Mountains. The chosen path is quite rough for the first 600m, but then gravel and by no means sandy.
The idyll lies in the midst of towering moraine peaks between the Dahme-Heideseen nature park and the Unterspreewald. The forest-covered moraines of the Krausnicker Mountains, which culminate in the Wehlaberg (144m), form the north-western boundary of the Unterspreewald. The relief of these mountains formed by glaciers shows deeply carved erosion valleys, steep slopes and plateau-like areas, in glacier troughs lie the lakes surrounded by reed belts and forest, some of which are designated as fishing waters - an oasis of silence and a retreat for plants and animals that have become rare.
There is a circular route around the lakes. Past the Schwanensee, Mittelsee and Förstersee, we went on to Köthen.
The bathing area at Köthener See is located on the south bank of the lake and can be reached via the village square. Gastronomic supplies, sanitary facilities and a sandy beach are available. 🛶 There are rentals in town. The lake is part of the UNESCO-recognized Spreewald biosphere reserve and also has a small island east of the Köthen district.
Then it went back via Wasserburg with a new little cafe and delicious homemade cake🥲🍰 (unfortunately photo gone) to Krausnick and then back on the outward route.

Hello Reiner, was it nice to drive through the forest on your tour from Krausnick? So far we have taken the path from Krausnick through the forest to Groß Lubolz because it is so beautifully paved. The paths through your forests are usually very sandy ... and rarely used as a route.😡Campsites are open, but according to your corona ordinance, there are no sanitary facilities. We have to wait a little longer.
