A stunning circular walk through the rolling countryside of South Hams, this route links the historic market towns of Totnes and Buckfastleigh with a rich mix of scenery, trails, and heritage. Starting from Totnes, the path winds through lush Devon farmland, quiet wooded valleys, and stretches of open moorland, offering wide views across Dartmoor and the River Dart valley. Expect a mix of well-marked footpaths, bridleways, and quiet lanes, with some gentle climbs and rewarding descents. Highlights include the charming village of Dartington, riverside stretches along the Dart, and glimpses of Buckfast Abbey near the halfway point. Plenty of wildlife, wildflowers, and peaceful picnic spots make this a highly rewarding day walk. After the break, you can either continue the circular route on foot or, as we did, hop on a local bus back to Totnes — a handy option that turns this into a leisurely point-to-point walk with minimal backtracking. Expect around 350 metres of elevation gain over the course of the walk — nothing too strenuous, but enough to feel satisfying. Ideal for intermediate walkers looking for a scenic, full-bodied day out with good food, good views, and great public transport links.
