Departure from Saldropo towards the Gorbea plateau. After a short trail, the path becomes a bit technical but very pleasant, through the undergrowth. I push when it climbs (the theme of this trip).
The biggest challenge of the day is a new track made of concrete slabs, which exceeds 20%… even without

A tour of the Gorbea Natural Park, "extensive" because it starts quite far away (near Bilbao).
I somewhat underestimated the first massif, which posed problems both in terms of difficulty and route. From the start, the path is clearly impassable by bike, so I set off on a forest track with concrete slabs

My longest ride! Add in the 13km from my house to the start (roughly as much as the runners will do to reach the actual start) and 3 or 4 for the return. A 50km stage, in fact, but with a 100km warm-up beforehand :)
In the morning, with the help of a slightly favorable wind on the first portion of the

One last short climb before catching the train: the Notre-Dame de la Garde Basilica. Short, but steep! Taking off your panniers is like taking off your ski boots at the end of the day; you're briefly on the moon.
It's also an opportunity to test the city's horrific reputation for cycling. Conclusion

Great day, quieter than yesterday. Small shaded roads, trails with just the right amount of technicality and inclines for a pleasant ride. Even the heat seems more bearable thanks to the wind (against the wind, but you can't have everything). The only difficulty of the day is the climb to the Sainte

My travel trails are generally made partly by feel, trying to imagine what type of surface and elevation gain to expect. By definition, I've never explored where I'm going. Often, the actual trails are quite different from what I'd imagined, and that's what makes it an "adventure." Today was full of

This mountain range is still as beautiful as ever, and a cycling paradise. On the trails and paved roads (different grades are available...), it's pretty good on gravel (the go-anywhere version, which isn't a bike accessory but the attitude of the pusher cyclist!). Sometimes the gravel is a bit coarse

We left early to avoid the blazing sun, which sets in late morning.
On the way up, the surrounding peaks create a magnificent scene. It's a fairly steep climb, and I'm far from alone on this section.
At Chourique Lake, first admired from the pass, we took a few strokes alongside the tadpoles. Drying off
