Very beautiful national park for hiking, but from 15 Oct till 30 Nov a large part is closed due to bird migration season.

However, it was a bit disappointing to notice that a large part of the park was closed due to bird migration season, but luckily the park is so large that it is still possible to make nice long hikes. Wonderful hike through the forest from Riffelalp to Zermatt. The path was sometimes quite steep downwards but easy to hike. There were many benches along the route with a beautiful view, perfect places for a break and small lunch.

First we went up with the cable car to Klein Matterhorn, where the view was breathtaking! Coming back downwards with the cable car we stopped at Furi and decided to walk down back to Zermatt. Not a long walk but very beautiful. Nice old houses, easy walking paths in good condition. Excellent start for

We started and finished at the Oude Pastorie, a really beautiful and cosy restaurant for drinks, lunch or dinner. This was the first time I visited Malpie. My expectations were very high, since I had heard from friends that it's a beautiful place. I was not disappointed! It was great. Also the weather happened to be perfect.
A small part of the route (shape of 8) goes twice the same path. We didn't mind at all

Today we joined a guided tour in Groeve ’t Rooth organized by Het Limburgs Landschap. The guide told us interesting stories about the history of the quarry, nature and the geology. It's quite easy to spot fossils in the stones, there were many. Very interesting!

A challenging route for me since usually I don't walk longer than 15 km routes in a day. We started at about 10:00 and about 7 hours later finished. It's a really nice route with beautiful views, sometimes through the forest, sometimes through the fields or villages. Some paths were quite muddy and slippery
