After finishing the 4-rivers-tour continuing my ride from Busan via Sokcho to the DMZ close to North Korea. This route starts in Busan, half of it is not classified a Korean bike trail. So the first half is not perfect to ride, but overall in solid shape for a bike tour. The second half (~330km) is the so called East Coast Trail, here again the road quality is extremely good. Day 6 led from Sokcho to the DMZ (after finishing that went back 50km to Sokcho to get to same hotel than the night before). GORGEOUS scenary, best day of that tour. North of Sokcho all places look nice, spend a bit of time at one of the beaches, had again and again great food, and happily arrived at the last red telephone cell to finish my extended East Coast trail. Overall weather could have been better, but the ride itself is breathtaking and certainly worth of doing it!

Day 5 led me to the beautiful city of Sokcho. Improved weather and (as usual) perfect road conditions plus the ocean brought me early enough into that city, so I had a bit of time to walk around in the afternoon and to enjoy an outstanding dinner. This day was nearly perfect - finally also some other riders around...

Day 4 leads the way to Donghae. And it goes up and down, down and up, and:....so on. Wooden (stable) bridges alongside the ocean were one of the highlights, despite I felt a bit lonely as no bike riders were around that day (during the week in a rainy October). In good weather conditions it must be a truly enjoyable ride, but even with the rain I loved to cycle there...

Day 3 was so far the longest ride, a bit more than 140km. Had a windy day, was quite a bit of work to finish that one. But what kind of bike tour is one without a bit of work...?

Day 2 lead from Ulsan to Pohang. This ride was very scenic at the seaside, I was enjoying the breeze, the sun and the ocean big time. Again, having some fantastic Korean food during the day - a definite plus of beeing in this country... :-)

A magnificient tour from the Northwest of South Korea (Incheon) over the metropolis Seoul down to the very South in Busan. This route encompasses the Han, Nakdong, Geum and Yeongsan rivers and is an overall 608km ride through a beautiful and exciting country. Day 6 leads from a small village to reach the end of the 4-river tour in Busan. It is elevating to enter this great city after the 608km ride and reach the point where to get the final stamp into the Korean biker's passport. At this spot there is also a cerification center where you can, show that passport and get your medal for a small fee. We finnished that day with a couple of drinks (Soju) and celebrated ourselves to make this wonderful ride happen together - one Korean and a German friend.

There are 2 inclines in this area - but moreover it has a couple of very scenic places such as temples and fancy bridges. It's time now to talk about Korean food: it is EXCELLENT! As a westerner I enjoyed to start the day with Korean breakfast (usually a soup with plain rice and some add-ons served on little plates) and to have a second main meal at night after finishing the tour. There are lots of options around, and unless you have a Korean speaker next to you as I had - pictures may help you... :-)

Again a lot of bridges to pass and an overall road close to the river. Not too many bikers around in this area, some international travellers. So we had the roads to large extend for ourselves. At around all the ride convenience stores, also some repair stations can be found - so no need to carry lots of food and drinks with you...

This route encompasses the Han, Nakdong, Geum and Yeongsan rivers and is an overall 608km ride through a beautiful and exciting country. Day 3 leads from Chongju to Mungyeong. This was the day with the longest incline - some good, hard work required to get up there. Once you are up, there is a supermarket and a place to have some food and/or drinks. We took that day a bit shorter, as also the weather conditions (a rainy October this year) were quite far from ideal that day. But despite that "detail" again a wonderful ride,,,
