Fantastic hike! The short detour to Mirador Balcoes is well worth it despite the crowds of tourists. The ubiquitous Madeira finches sometimes steal the show from the magnificent view. The levada is mostly in the shade, but after the strenuous climb, you'll be rewarded with plenty of sunshine on the plateau
