Last day of cycling on our route from Venice to Trieste. Komoot and Google send us down a short cut to the main road which led to a gated, private road. Luckily, the woman living on the estate just came home in her car and gave us access. Luckily - or not?! I don't think the nice lady has ever ridden

The camping spot looked lovely and we camped amongst some old oak trees, however, it is infact sandwiched between two highways and there is a freight train line that runs right next to it.. So not the best nights sleep. We had a slow morning with only 17 or so km to do but set off in Good time (ish)…

Early start as the afternoons are getting hot again and we wanted to make good progress in the morning. First part of the journey was really nice along cycle ways and really quiet almost deserted back roads (apart from the odd cyclist).

We set off nice and early. The first part of the route was just gorgeous. First, going along the Laguna on a very nice, smooth asphalt cycling path. Then cycling on a dam, overlooking the glittering sea along the coast line. I was thinking to myself that this was probably my favourite section of this

Today, we just cycled a few kilometres south to the next campsite and beach for Max to have some sand to play in. The ride was very short and pretty, taking us over the thin bit of land through the glittering sea to the side of Gardo, where we stopped for some coffee.

We decided to move to another campsite that is on the outside of the lagoon.. Hard call to make as this place is really relaxing but the lack of beach and the road noise just tipped our hand. Today began with chocolate croissants and a large scale picture frame around us at hotel San Giorgio. The hotel seemed left over from a once exciting time. The staff though was excellent and our stay rounded off with the manager getting out a giant picture frame for us to hold and taking photos. We

The hotel was comfortable and the hospitality from the manager was excellent. It was also an official hotel for the giro in 2014. Feels like the area had investment a while ago, maybe for the Olympics or something, it's since been left to be slowly forgotten about. The route today was nice. Not

Well, at last we got some good gravel riding down ;) On this part of the route, one gravel track followed the next with short road bits in between. No time to get off the bike though as much of it led us through some fields with swarms of insects as thick as clouds of smoke. We had a nice coffee stop
