This tour from Neuhaus am Rennweg down to the Schwarzatal to Saalfeld is particularly suitable for a family excursion. There are numerous rest areas and shelters for breaks along the route and the paths are easy to drive on. The tour starts at the train station in Neuhaus am Rennweg. On easy-to-drive forest paths, it first goes downhill, past Cursdorf and Deesbach. From here the route leads over the Kirchberg and the Fröbelturm. This was built in memory of Friedrich Froebel, the founder of the kindergarten. The tour continues to Oberweißbach. Here you can make a worthwhile stopover and take the beautiful Oberweißbacher Bergbahn to the top and enjoy the view.A steep descent over forest paths finally leads via Sitzendorf to Schwarzburg - past the castle with the oldest and only completely preserved armory collection. Following the Schwarza downstream, you will continue through the Schwarzatal to Bad Blankenburg. At the chrysoprase weir you can linger and take a break. Then the tour takes you along the Saale to Saalfeld.

The tour is short, but no less demanding - and just the thing for experienced mountain bikers who like to ride trails and a few meters in altitude - 620 in number, spread over just 29 kilometers. It starts in Saalfeld and initially to Remschütz. Over a sandy and rooted ascent, it goes past the Remschützer sand pit to Dorfkulm. The path continues over narrow and steep passages to the Kulmberghaus. Here you can take a short break and enjoy the beautiful view over the Saale region from the observation tower. Your snack is also a good way to strengthen yourself. Then it goes back to the valley to Oberpreilipp on smooth single trails. From there, some very narrow and winding forest paths lead further east until you reach the Marienturm. Here you can stop and enjoy the view of Rudolstadt and the surrounding area. Again there are crisp and demanding single trails to Langenschade. At the end, it goes over the ant and cat hill until a steep and technically demanding descent leads back to the Remschützer sand pit. From here the route leads back to the starting point of the tour. So did we promise too much?

Great views of the Saale and exciting highlights such as the Saalleiten and Sandberge accompany you on your tour. You start in Saalfeld and drive over the Zeiss Bridge on the bike path to Röblitz. Before the tour branches off towards Uhlstädter Heide, you will see Ranis Castle on the horizon. A very impressive building! After a few kilometers on forest and forest paths you will reach the ruins of Töpfersdorf Castle. The castle was still in use until 1850. From here it is not far to the Saalleiten, an approximately two kilometer long and demanding single trail directly above the Saale, which reaches just before Rückersdorf - and runs absolutely idyllically along the Saale.

In Weißenburg you can visit the Weißenburg and take a break in the beer garden. Freshly strengthened, it continues rapidly on forest roads and simple single trails to Langenschade. Another ascent and descent over the Mühlberg and the Lindingberg finally leads you back into the valley to Remschütz and past the sand mountains. Then you drive back to the starting point of the tour happy and satisfied.

And watch out: the local bikers have chosen this tour as one of the best and most beautiful tours in Thuringia! On the round trip around the Hohenwartestausee you can enjoy unique panoramas and exciting trails. With an altitude of around 1,100 meters, the tour is particularly suitable for ambitious amateur bikers who like to challenge themselves. You start at the parking lot in Hohenwarte and first cross the Saale over the impressive dam wall.It continues on single trails and forest paths in the Saale valley to Alterbucht - a popular bathing resort on the beautiful Saale beach. You should definitely have your bathing suit with you! Soon you get to the next highlight of the tour, the moss house with a great view of the reservoir.Following the path in the direction of Wilhelmsdorf, it goes over smooth paths back in the direction of the water to the Portenschmiede campsite. Through the Portengrund you drive uphill to the Bockfelsen, a lookout point made of rugged slate. Here you think you are in the Norwegian fjords - breathtaking!A rapid descent takes you to the Neumannshof campsite. It continues on the most beautiful section of the tour directly above the water to the Linkenmühle. Here you can take a short break and enjoy a huge sundae. And again there is a highlight, because you cross the Saale with the mill ferry.Fortunately, your legs rested briefly on the ferry, because now follows the longest ascent of the tour to the so-called Hohen Leite, which is not for nothing. Your reward follows promptly, because from here you have a magnificent view over Althenroth and Neumannshof. Past the Drachenschwanzhütte, it goes back down to the banks of the Saale to the Hopfenmühle campsite. This is followed by the Hermannsfelsen and the place Neidenberga. This time it doesn't go that high - you conquer 490 meters in altitude from the Saale valley to the heights of the fairy grotto town of Saalfeld. The tour starts in Saalfeld towards Obernitz, past the chocolate factory with factory outlet and the National Geotope Bohlenwand.

Now it gets tough: There follows a steep ascent to the Pfaffenberg and over the Gleitsch to the Teufelsbrücke, a natural stone arch well worth seeing. Afterwards, a great single trail leads quickly back to the valley above a quarry. It continues along the Saale over the Saale trail to Reschwitz. On the Saalfeld "Höhenweg" you continue in the direction of the garden peaks with a beautiful view of the whole of Saalfeld and further in the direction of the fairy grottoes adventure world.

Make sure you plan a little time here, because a tour of the most colorful show grotto in the world and a break with original Thuringian bratwurst are absolutely worthwhile. On a narrow dirt road you continue towards Spitzberg and enjoy fantastic views again. What follows is a long descent towards the center of Saalfeld. As the last highlight of the tour you will reach the Saalfeld Castle and the Castle Park. Along the Saale it goes back to the starting point of the tour.

This tour attracts with regional insider tips and unique panoramas - and a crisp 1,190 meters of altitude. But as the saying goes: Nothing comes from nothing. Tight legs and great views need to be earned. From Saalfeld your route first leads via Bad Blankenburg into the Schwarzatal.

From here you continue via Greifenstein Castle, where you can pay a visit to the in-house falconry, to Großgölitz. And the next highlight is already waiting for you, because a local wood artist has built a sculpture park here that will amaze you. There is also a small distillery in town - another reason to make a stop in Großgölitz.
Freshly strengthened, it goes uphill via Thälendorf in the direction of the Ehrenstein castle ruins, a former count residence of the Schwarzburger. You will reach the highest point of the tour, the large Kalkberg, a little later. During the years of German division, the National People's Army (NVA) was stationed here. After reunification, an MDR transmitter was installed instead. You get to Sundremda via forest and field paths via the Altremda reservoir. Past the Groschwitz airfield, continue towards Keilhau. From the Kesselberg it goes quickly to the Kesselwarte with a great view of Bad Blankenburg and Greifenstein Castle. On narrow forest paths and single trails you will then reach the idyllic village of Zeigerheim. The last big ascent of the tour to the nine and a half meter high Geschwister-Scholl-Turm, which was built in the style of a small knight's castle, now follows over the Zeigerheimer Berg. Single trails and gravel paths lead towards Rudolstadt. Following the Saale, you finally come back to the starting point.

Today it will be educational, because on your tour you will drive past a sunken village and experience the origin of hydropower on the Saale - and at the end a sweet surprise. With an altitude of 750 meters, the area around Saalfeld shows you once again that you can cycle uphill not only in the Alps. First you start leisurely with an ascent over the Rote Berg to Großkamsdorf. On your way you will pass the former Kamsdorf mine, where you can ride a mountain bike underground today. Pretty crazy!

It continues in the direction of Bucha and a little later on forest and meadow paths into the Saale valley to Alterbucht. On nice summer days you can take a long break with bathing fun or take a little ride in a rowboat or pedal boat. Along the banks of the Hohenwarte Dam you now drive over the Lettersberg to the Presswitzer Spitze and now it's getting very historic: Here, in 1938, the village of Presswitz was completely flooded to make room for the dam.

In the direction of the dam, you continue directly on the water and your journey is loosened up with three crossings of the Saale. Once you drive over the dam, then over the Saalesteig in Hohenwarte and later over the Eichicht dam. Here you can enjoy the wonderful views of the dam's waterworks and the mountain landscape once more.

The Saale cycle path takes you to the idyllic villages of Eichicht and Breternitz. Now you follow the Saaletrail to Reschwitz. At the entrance to Saalfeld it is worth taking a look at the magnificent plank wall - a 100 meter high national geotope with an information point. At the end of the tour you can buy delicious chocolate and the famous Saalfeld nougat bags in the Sarotti factory outlet and review the great tour.

Through the villages of Böhlplatten and Cordobang you finally get to Schwarzburg via the Trippstein. On the way you can always enjoy great views of the Schwarzatal. And now another highlight is waiting for you: The armory of Schloss Schwarzburg shows the oldest and only completely preserved princely armory collection in Germany. An armory, now an arsenal, is a place where weapons and military equipment were stored and repaired.

You will find a special highlight right on the Schwarza, because here you will find a great swing with which you can fly over the water. Here you can take a deep breath and gather strength for the next ascent. Because now the tour goes uphill again, then over wide forest paths past the Mooshäuschen to Dittersdorfer Höhe with a wonderful panorama.

Congratulations, you have reached the highest point of your tour. Now go back to the Schwarzatal on wide forest roads and forest paths until you reach the Eberstein hunting lodge. What follows is a great single trail, over which you drive back to Bad Blankenburg in full flow. Take a look at the chrysoprase weir on the Schwarza - an impressive structure! Now it goes downhill to Rudolstadt Heidecksburg. Take a little time for a tour of the baroque castle and the wonderful view over the city.
Via one of the castle entrances you drive down to the market square with the town hall and through the beautiful old town streets over the Saale to Heinrich-Heine-Park. Here you can discover a historical highlight with the open-air museum "Thuringian Farmhouses" and immerse yourself in life in the Free State a hundred years ago.At the end of the tour it gets tough again, because now there is a short but steep ascent to the Marienturm.
