🇩🇪 Ein perfekter Tag in und um Arnsberg: entlang der Ruhr spazieren, umgeben vom satten Grün der Wälder, eintreten in die majestätische Prämonstratenser-Klosterkirche, wo barocke, detailreiche Skulpturen und Ornamente Demut vor der göttlichen Gegenwart wecken. Weiter durch die mittelalterliche Altstadt mit ihren charmanten Fachwerkhäusern schlendern, die Ruinen des Arnsberger Schlosses erkunden und schließlich am Tor zu den zauberhaften Sauerländer Bergen ankommen – hier vereinen sich Geschichte, Natur und Staunen zu einem unvergesslichen Erlebnis.

🇬🇧From Castle Dyck to Cloister Nikolaus A peaceful tour through history and nature: starting at Castle Dyck with its vast landscape gardens, shaped from English park style to the elegant Orangerie. Along the way, we discovered the small Chapel of the Holy Spirit, where an inspiring message reminded us that “sexual orientation is a gift from God, not to be questioned” (Bishop Dr. Helmut Dieser). Arriving at Cloister Nikolaus, first founded in the 12th century as a Franciscan home, we found traces of the noble House of Dyck in the tombs beneath the church. Today, the cloister is cared for by the Sisters of the Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate. On Sundays, visitors are warmly welcomed with homemade cakes and coffee in the lovely garden. A mindful route combining culture, spirituality, and moments of quiet beauty — and for us, quality time as husbands walking together.

🇬🇧I had actually planned to visit both castles – Vischering Castle 🏯 and Lüdinghausen Castle 🏰. The landscape around them: truly idyllic 🌿🌾, sunshine all the way ☀️, the mood perfect 😎. But then: Vischering Castle was “occupied” by a festival. All paths around it closed 🚫 – no chance for a walk ❌😒. At least a few info boards 📜📍 would have been nice, instead of me ending up sketching a totally confusing map 🤯. 😅 So, Plan B: Lüdinghausen Castle 🏰💡. Fascinating history! Back in the day there were some serious power struggles ⚔️👑 between the Prince-Bishopric of Münster ⛪ and the local nobility 🛡️. In the end, the victory – not surprisingly – went to the bishopric 🏆. 🎟️ Free entry, donations welcome 💌 – and definitely a place worth taking your time. On my walk I also stumbled upon thoughts about the idea of freedom 🕊️. Jean-Jacques Rousseau once said: “Man is born free, and everywhere he is in chains.” A sentence that, here – between moats and castles – really makes you stop and think 🤔😇. Special along the way: I spotted not one, but two statues of St. John of Nepomuk on bridges. Probably a reminder of the seal of confession 🤫… or simply: “Small town – keep your mouth shut.” 😉😜 ✨ An absolute recommendation for all medieval, church, and history nerds like me 🕍📜.
