Nice little church below the Landgrave Castle.
In 1477 a rich patrician made a generous donation to the "Brothers of Common Life", who were also known as spherical gentlemen because of their hat shape. Due to this donation, the brothers were able to start building a church and an associated monastery in 1478 in today's Kugelgasse. The current shape of the church did not develop until around 1500 to 1520. Before that there was probably a somewhat smaller makeshift church in the same place. The Kugelkirche is the only completely new church from the late Gothic period in Marburg.
Shortly after its completion, the Kugelkirche lost part of the importance originally intended for it, because the Kugelherrenstift was dissolved as early as 1527 and the church and monastery passed into the possession of the newly founded Marburg University.
Inside the Kugelkirche we find a beautiful reticulated vault, the beginnings of which cross each other, the points of intersection are decorated with tendril paintings. The still existing high altar was built towards the end of the 19th century. The former old pulpit is no longer there and the organ used today is also of newer date, it is the replacement for a previous organ from the years 1828/29.

One of Marburg's most charming buildings can be found in the heart of the old town -
the Kugelkirche (Spherical Church). The path there leads you through the picturesque Kugelgasse (ball alley) with its overgrown front gardens.
The special name "Kugelkirche" (Spherical Church) goes back to the community of brothers
of the common life, who were called Kugelherren (Spherical Lords) because of their headgear. Over the centuries, the church has had a varied history.Just a few years after the introduction of the Reformation in Hesse, the Kugelherren (Spherical Lords) brotherhood was dissolved, and the Kugelkirche (Spherical Church) was converted into a lecture hall for the Faculty of Theology.A Catholic congregation has existed in the late Gothic Kugelkirche again since 1827.When you enter the church through the north entrance, your first glance will be drawn to the Elisabeth Shrine, which depicts scenes from the life of Saint Elisabeth.
A special highlight is the ornate reticulated vault, decorated with Gothic frescoes in the form of haloes and foliage.tourenplaner-rheinland-pfalz.de/de/punkt/kirche/kugelkirche/56354592
