Church below the Landgrave Castle.
The Gothic Lutheran Church is not only the oldest parish church in Marburg, with its leaning tower, which can be seen from afar, it is also another landmark of the city.
It is the second largest church in Marburg after the Elisabeth Church and was built over a previous building. The originally Romanesque, in the 13./14. The church, which was converted into a Gothic hall church in the 19th century, consists of a choir and a three-nave hall nave. The 15th-century tower is crowned only by a wooden spire. Sunlight and weather influences have caused the material to warp and give the tower its crooked appearance.
Inside, the four-part ribbed vault is supported by buttresses, between which the high windows are arranged. In addition to the Romanesque baptismal font made of stone, which comes from the previous building, the tomb of Landgravine Hedwig von Württemberg and her husband Ludwig von Hessen can be seen here.
The church also has excellent acoustics, which is why it turns the frequent concerts into a sound experience.

The leaning tower of the Luther Church
(by Ernst Wolf, 1970)
Who goes through Marburg's upper town
and stands in front of the Luther Church,
he looks at the crooked church tower
and then says to himself: "O man, O man."
But the women are to blame
they mess up again year after year.
Because all Marburg residents are well aware
a student has the tower's skill in hand,
as a virgin she has to leave university,
then the tower will stand straight again.
But nobody was ready for it yet.
