In Roman Cologne, on the northernmost side street in the direction of Rheinhafen, there was a luxurious city villa - the house with the Dionysian mosaic, now the site of the Roman-Germanic Museum. The basalt paving of this »Hafenstraße« in the outer area of the museum is the only accessible »Roman road« in the heart of a German metropolis. The heavy columnar basalt of the street was excavated in 1969 when the dome environment was redesigned. They have been moved a few meters offset in a new bed, but not as a curved dam, but for safety reasons as a flat surface. On the surfaces of the basalt stones the ancient signs of wear can be seen. The 5.20 meter wide harbor road was lined by four to five meter wide arcades. Roman-Germanic Museum Cologne: Information Center for the »Experience Area Römerstraße.
