The Christuskirche was built in 1859-1864 by Conrad Wilhelm Hase as the residence church of George V. The neo-Gothic brick building is the first new church building in Hanover after 1747. As a residence church used only once (on the day of the inauguration), but still exists - through the patronage of Ernst August Prince of Hannover - contact the former Hanoverian royal house.
The most striking architectural feature is the because of the small east-west extension of the site in the nave offset tower with its more than 70 m high, stone pyramid. Another feature is the protruding polygonal chapel ring on the choir and the filigree design in the roof area with a variety of pinnacles, gargoyles and decorative gables of the Deister. The imposing west facade is designed in the style of the Freiburg and Strasbourg Minster. Between the far forward buttresses lies the main portal with Wimperg and rose window. (Wikipedia)

The Christ Church at the entrance to the northern part of Hanover has a lot to do with the Welfenschloss (today's university). The last king of Hanover, Georg V, had his new castle built in the Welfengarten in the sixties of the 19th century and wanted to have a court church nearby. In 1859 the Christ Congregation came into being, which initially held its services in the nearby Nikolaikapelle. The Hanoverian master builder Conrad Wilhelm Hase meanwhile built a mighty church on the edge of the Klagesmarkt, which was inaugurated in 1864 in the presence of the king. The monarch then donated the building to the community.
Also noteworthy today is the organ built between 1957 and 1961 by the Altwarmbüchen organ builder Hermann Hillebrand. It replaced the previous instrument that was destroyed in World War II and is now a listed building.
