For the 100th anniversary of the iron goods wholesaler of Oskar Winter and Wilhelm Meier on June 7, 1896, they had the magnificent fountain built in the old town of Hanover. He was supposed to advertise their business on the wood market. Hanoverians simply call the ornate water feature on the walk-in granite plinth in front of the Leibnizhaus "wishing well": a large ring is worked into the wrought iron grating around the massive natural stone basin, which supposedly makes every wish come true when you turn it. The correct name is actually Oskar-Winter-Brunnen.

The theft was never completely cleared up, but a few years later an extremely successful merchant tradition developed in the family of one of the pages, which has lasted to this day. The ring then fell into oblivion. Around the same time as the Holzmarkt fountain was erected, the ring also reappeared. The beautiful daughter of a Hanoverian cooper found him in a warehouse in the old town. After sending her fiancé into the desert with the magical help of the ring, she came up with the idea of bringing him into the grid of the well. It can still be found here today, and many a town hall official still turns things around when business has faltered.
