Batca Doamnei Lake was formed in 1962 by barring Bistrita and embankment on the left side of a perimeter in the major riverbed of this river. Filled with water from the Izvoru Muntelui-Bicaz dam lake, to which is added the old river of Bistrita river, as well as the river Madam, the lake represents an important element of protection of the city of Piatra Neamt.
With a length of 3.2 km and an area of 235 ha, this lake has become in recent years a true paradise for birds coming from the East Carpathian migration corridor. Due to the good winter conditions that the lake offers, every winter in Piatra Neamt we can admire the beauty of the many species of birds that flock here.
From the large egret to the populations of black-necked crocodile, red-necked crocodile, large-billed, mottled-billed and small-billed, these populations of wintering birds here are noted both qualitatively and quantitatively. During the day they stand on the glitter of water and swim frequently on the edge of the ice, and in the evening they retreat to the feeding places. Then, it moves on the Bistrita river, downstream and on its tributaries: Oantu, Pangaracior, Secu - Vaduri, Cracau, Madam, Agarcia, and can be observed on Vaduri and Pangarati lakes.
