The fountain, which is also called Ehekarusell, is one of the most important modern works of art in the city and is located in the center right next to the white tower.
In six larger-than-life groups of figures, it shows the various scenes from the ups and downs of married life - from the first passionate love to marital disputes to death.
The figures are really very impressive. A visit to the fountain is a must for visitors to Nuremberg's old town.

The monumental fountain at the White Tower in Nuremberg expressively depicts scenes of a marriage in six groups of figures - and Hans Sachs dances high on a kind of corn cob column ...
The fountain was designed by the Braunschweig artist Jürgen Weber (1928-2007). Weber refers to a poem by Hans Sachs, in which this describes the joy and sorrow of the marriage.
But let's let Jürgen Weber speak for himself:
"The poem by Hans Sachs is made up of double verses that praise and accuse marriage as well - the poem is so well-balanced, without any beginning or end, that I designed a carousel of six carriages that alternately represent both negative and positive scenes of marriage Three further information about the well and source:

Scenes from married life are depicted on this fountain, which covers a ventilation shaft of the subway. Really worth seeing.

The Marriage Carousel is a modern fountain full of figures that seems confusing at first glance. If you start at the corn cob and go around to the left, you can see it advertising marriage, the family with children and finally, at the lizard, the murder of the spouse.
The fountain is on Ludwigsplatz, right next to the White Tower.

The Marriage Carousel, designed by Jürgen Weber and erected on Nuremberg's Ludwigsplatz in 1984, is now considered the largest European figured fountain of the 20th century. Around the dancing Meistersinger from Nuremberg, Hans Sachs, a series of figures in six scenes shows the eventful married life from the first love to death. The Marriage Carousel is a composition of painted, partially gilded figures and marble sculptures. [tourism.nuernberg.de]

                The bittersweet ehlich life
                (by Hans Sachs)

                God be praised and honored,
who gave me a frumb wife,
With me two and twenty years
                I lived, God gave longer
                Although living in my life
Has sweet and sour often go
Well mixed with joy and sorrow,
First off, then off, without difference.
                She never nitpicks me,
want to show you a part schwankweis you.

The years of a marriage are depicted on the Hans Sachs fountain, which is why the fountain is also called the marriage carousel.

This is the newer work of art in Nuremberg's old town that stands out for me!

The fountain was designed by the Braunschweig sculptor Jürgen Weber on behalf of the city of Nuremberg in the years 1977 to 1981 and built in 1984. The idea of concealing a shaft opening in the subway with a fountain came from Otto Peter Görl, the Nuremberg building consultant at the time. Just like the entrance to the subway station here is in an old city gate next to the fountain.

The work of art was initially highly controversial because of the expressive figurative representations, which parts of the population and the press viewed as sometimes drastically vulgar, but also because of the considerable budget overruns.

The fountain system has suffered occasional damage from climbing and climbing, in particular minor demolitions on the marble parts. The fire gilding is mostly rubbed off. The iron grating around the fountain designed by the artist – which would also have protected it from vandalism – was not commissioned by the city of Nuremberg.

I don't like the fountain, the figures are very crude and the overall look is not aesthetic for me. However, the idea is wonderful. A matter of taste.

The Ehekarussell (also called Ehebrunnen), actually Hans Sachs-Brunnen, is a large-scale architectural fountain in Nuremberg.
It is located directly in front of the White Tower in the pedestrian zone in the city center of Nuremberg.

The Hans Sachs Fountain, also known as the "Marriage Carousel," is a striking fountain in Nuremberg, located in the pedestrian zone directly in front of the White Tower. It was created by the sculptor Jürgen Weber between 1977 and 1981 on behalf of the city of Nuremberg and installed in 1984.
The fountain is inspired by the poem "Das bittersüße eh'lich Leben" (The Bittersweet Marriage) by the Nuremberg master singer Hans Sachs (1494-1576). In six scenes, it depicts the various phases of a marriage – from initial infatuation through quarrels to death – in a sometimes humorous, sometimes drastic way.
The bronze figures are partially gilded and accentuated with colored steel sheets. The fountain basin is made of marble. The fountain was originally intended to conceal a subway ventilation shaft below.
