The Grenzhammer used to be a hammer mill that was operated with the help of the stream and the pond that was dammed up from it. Many bodies of water in the area were used industrially to operate rafts or mills. In the process, entire streams were changed, such as the Boxgraben near Fleckl.

The name of the district of Grenzhammer is reminiscent of the border that was important for centuries, dividing it politically, linguistically, denominationally and ethnically. The Paschenweiher not far from Karches takes its name from an old smuggling route
