There is a public transport connection to the car park below the fort as the end of the bus route between Folgaria and Lavarone. From there it is a good 10 minutes to walk - but there is also a shuttle. The fort is currently open between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. in summer; Entrance fee for adults EUR 7.00. You should allow 1/2 to 2 hours for the visit. In front of the fort there is a small snack bar with a modest culinary offer, where you can also buy souvenirs and documentation.

Built between 1908 and 1912, overlooking the Astico Valley, Fort Belvedere was a ring in the fortified and impenetrable defensive belt that protected the borders of the Austro-Hungarian Empire from the Kingdom of Italy. 'For Trento, I'm enough!' was the motto of Wark Gschwent, a jewel in the crown of Austro-Hungarian engineering. Carved into the rock, it dominated all sides thanks to outposts and three 360° rotating howitzers.

This fort has survived intact to this day thanks to a series of fortunate events: it was involved in the conflict only in the initial phase of the "war of the forts," remaining far from the front thereafter; after the First World War, Victor Emmanuel III ordered its preservation as a historical monument; It was only partially dismantled by salvagers and the fascist government to extract its precious metal during the autarkic era (many other forts were literally blown up). It was later purchased by a local private individual who planned to convert it into a stable for cattle and sheep. After World War II, the owner and his heirs transformed it into a distinguished museum, enriched by numerous artifacts found nearby. In 1997, it was purchased by the Municipality of Lavarone, which carried out a series of renovations and, over the years, transformed it into the contemporary museum it is today.

Visiting the fort is an engaging and immersive experience, thanks to the numerous multimedia features that make it a constant surprise: sounds, voices, noises, projections, augmented reality, an animated model, reconstructed environments, and more. Everything is meticulously designed, from the site to the graphics to the Corten steel structures. Walking along the long walkways and steps deep within the rock is equally captivating.
