The original monument, the "Hackher Lion," was created by Otto Jarl. It was unveiled on October 17, 1909, on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Siege of Schlossberg. However, it was removed in 1941 and melted down in the Brixlegg steelworks in 1943. The current "Hackher Lion" is a freely conceived replica by Wilhelm Gösser and was (re)unveiled on October 26, 1966.

The base and inscription plaque are still from the original monument.
