The idiosyncratic round house was built in 1926 by the writer and first tour guide of the artists' village, Edwin Koenemann, as a bizarre own residential building. After his death in 1960, his widow Editha, a native of Hamburg teacher, lived until her death in 1993 still in it. Fortunately, the unobstructed house, with a diameter of only 10m over 130m ² living space identifies, was realized at the time to a design by the famous architect Bruno Taut. In 2001, after a six-year, costly refurbishment phase, the doors of the "cheese bell" opened for the newly established Museum of Arts and Crafts.

Worpswede cheese bell is the colloquial name for a house in the artists' village of Worpswede in Lower Saxony.

The cheese bell can be visited - for a fee. The garden is also very beautiful. It was built in 1926 by the writer Edwin Koenemann according to the plans of the architect Bruno Taut. The wooden house is now a listed building and has been completely renovated in recent years. The building, which attracted attention because of its unusual igloo shape, was given the name "cheese bell" by the residents of Worpswede.

The cheese bell in Worpswede is a strange house. You could perhaps describe it as bizarre, funny, homely or strange. One thing is certain: this house in the shape of a half-sphere is an architectural monument of a special quality. And the artistic and intellectual freedom of building in this way is fitting for an artists' village. The house was built in 1926 by Worpswede's first tour guide, who long claimed that this design was his. Today we know that this is not true. In Worpswede, however, the new name "cheese bell" was quickly adopted. This inventiveness for new word creations was very pronounced in Worpswede. On your tour you will come across the well-intentioned nicknames that are attributed to the local, often strange-looking architecture even more often. Today this house is looked after by the Friends of Worpswede and a tour of the house, the outdoor facilities and the beautiful handcrafted interior is worth a visit. Handicrafts from almost a hundred years of history in Worpswede are exhibited here. Source: worpswede-tipps.de/kaeseglocke
