Insect hotel Heumensoord

This hotel is designed to provide a safe haven for various types of insects all year round. Because each insect has its own specific preference, the hotel consists of various materials.

Breeding ground
For bumblebees, solitary bees and wasps, this hotel is not only a place to hibernate, but also an ideal breeding ground. The females lay their eggs in the holes in the wood and then kill them. In the spring, these larvae hatch and break through the cavities to the outside. The larvae feed on plants such as istoukhei and gorse.

Shelter
Laceflies use the insect hotel as a safe haven all year round. Ladybirds will mainly stay in the insect hotel at night and in the winter. Lacewings and ladybirds are both natural enemies of aphids, which makes them very useful for garden owners.
