On the Schlossplatz in Coburg, you'll find a weather column made of Alsleben sandstone, which was erected on August 29, 1882 "...at the instigation of the Coburg Meteorological Committee..." by the sculptor Heinrich Scheler based on a design by city architect Julius Martinet. The neo-Gothic pillar was extensively renovated in 2008 as part of the renovation work on the Schlossplatz.

The column contains a clock, a weather vane, a hygrometer, and a thermometer. Information such as Coburg's geographical data is also listed on the side.
