The ensemble of the old sheep farm is not far from Ahorn Castle in the midst of orchards. The baroque complex was built in 1713 as a sheep farm by the then owner of the castle and manor in Ahorn, Georg Paul von Hendrich.
It was geared towards the operation with approx. 500 sheep in winter shoeing.
A sheep farm in Ahorn has been occupied since the 15th century and was originally located at a different location on the western outskirts of Ahorn.
As early as 1650, according to a cost estimate handed down in the castle archives, a new sheep farm was to be built for the commandant of the Plassenburg, Wolff Friedrich Muffel von Ermreuth, who was seated at Ahorn Castle, as the old one was obviously dilapidated or at least in great need of repair.
