        "The Postfuhramt (formerly: Imperial Postfuhramt) is a representative brick building on Oranienburger Strasse in Berlin's Mitte district of the district of the same name. It was completed in 1881 and was one of the largest government buildings in Berlin at the time. It has been a listed building since 1975.

        The direct reason for the construction of the Postfuhramt was on the one hand the growing need for horses with the increasing carriage business, on the other hand the catastrophic hygiene and the dilapidation of the old stables; in March 1874 numerous animals died there. First, two two-storey stables for a total of around 250 horses were built in the courtyard of the planned new facility. The lower floors were partly embedded in the ground, the upper ones accessible via ramps. When the post office was completely modernized in 1925, these stables disappeared. A loading point and a wagon hall were built in the courtyard; both were destroyed in the war (...) "

              The Postfuhramt was completed in 1881. The architects were Carl Schwatlo and Wilhelm Tuckermann. It was one of the largest government buildings in Berlin. Previously, a residence for postillions stood here, later the post office of the royal postmaster. It soon became too small to meet the growing needs of the postal service. Given this, along with the poor hygiene and dilapidated condition of the old stables, a new building was necessary.
              The building has been a listed building since 1975.
