This is one of the famous Borisoglebsk families, mentioned since the 18th century. The Batyrevs owned several houses in the city. One of them, a two-story mansion, was located on Dvoryanskaya Street, opposite the branch of the Russo-Asian Bank. The Batyrev merchants traded in grain products. Like many Borisoglebsk merchants, they were involved in charity, for which they were respected in the city. Thus, during the lean years of famine, the Batyrevs sold flour at half price, and for several months they supplied the poorest families of the city with flour and cereals free of charge.

Mitrofan Nedelin, the future marshal, Commander-in-Chief of the Missile Forces and Artillery, whose family lived nearby, on Bolkhovitinovskaya Street (now Karl Marx, Building 121), fell in love with the daughter of the merchant Batyrev, Maria Dmitrievna, while on leave during the civil war. Seeing the beauty with a long braid, Mitrofan came home and said to his parents: "Send the matchmakers." He received consent. Their marriage was long and happy. All his life, Mitrofan Ivanovich doted on his wife.
