Julia Pettersson and Elna Irving, two single girls from Örebro, came to Avaträsk in the winter of 1918 to do missionary work in the region for the then rapidly growing Pentecostal movement. After several stops, Dorotea became the center of this community, and in 1978 the 600 square meter wooden half-timbered church on Storgatan was inaugurated. The congregation, which once had more than a hundred members, now has 36 women and men. The Pentecostal church in Dorotea is involved in numerous international mission projects, especially in Africa.
