The Ilyinskaya Church with its bell tower stands on the outskirts of the village of Glukhovo, on a high hill, from which picturesque distances open up with fields, copses and the winding thin ribbon of the Vorsha River below. Life was once in full swing in Glukhovo and the surrounding villages of Orekhovo, Morozovo and Khrenovo, the parish was rich and populous. A few kilometers away was the strong family estate of the Zhukovskys with a manor, in which the father of Russian aviation, professor-theorist, founder of the theory of the wing and aerodynamics N. E. Zhukovsky was born in 1847.
