Eppstein Castle towers stately over the city. In the castle there is a museum that brings you closer to the thousand-year history of the historic site. The exhibition is designed to be interactive and multimedia, making it entertaining for children. The castle complex is open daily (except Mondays) from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. from April to October. In the winter months, the gates do not open until an hour later. Admission for adults is 4 euros.

Note (October 2020): The castle and the museum are currently closed. A crack in the wall was found in the western kennel, the securing work is still ongoing. Current information: eppstein.de.

The Kemenate, which can be used again through a new roof and window, can be rented for private events. Among other things, wedding ceremonies can be organized through the registry offices of the cities of Eppstein and Kelkheim.

Beautiful old town with old half-timbered houses. The Eppstein Castle is also worth a visit. It is one of the oldest open-air theater venues in the Rhein-Main area. The Eppstein Castle Festival has been held here in June and July since 1913 (eppstein.de).

The ascent to the tower is via a spiral staircase with no escape route, which is why traffic jams can occur in high traffic.

The legend of knight Eppo, who is said to have freed Berta von Bremthal from the captivity of a giant and built the castle here, is entwined around its founding. In fact, Eppstein Castle could go back to the Konradiner Count Eberhard in the 10th century. His name, in short Eppo or Ebbo, remained in the name of the castle, which was first mentioned in 1122 as "Ebbensten" (Ebbo's stone). The earliest architectural findings date from around 1100.
