The Sallustian Obelisk is located in the Piazza della Trinità dei Monti in Rome, directly in front of the church of the same name and at the top of the famous Spanish Steps leading to the Piazza di Spagna. This obelisk was created during the Roman Imperial period, probably between the 2nd and 3rd centuries, imitating Egyptian obelisks.
The obelisk is 13.91 meters high and, with its pedestal, reaches 15.21 meters. It is decorated with hieroglyphics that were added after its transport to Rome. It was originally intended for the Horti Sallustiani, a private garden with a hippodrome.
