At the end of June 2024, it was announced that architects Arnout Van Vaerenbergh and Pieter-Jan Gijs will resurrect the church and other disappeared buildings on the Herkenrode site. Not quite as fully-fledged buildings, but with the interplay of lines that they are known for and that many have already seen in their see-through church in Borgloon. It should bring the total experience of Herkenrode more closely into line with historical reality and should work perfectly with the buildings that are still there today, making Herkenrode already a tourist attraction. A first part of the installation will be carried out as a teaser in June 2024. The fragment measures 9x15x12m (lxwxh) with a spire that reaches 24m high. It will serve as a test piece to further optimize the rest of the structure and to learn lessons for the rest of the process. It also allows visitors to get acquainted with the project. In 2026 it will be exactly 200 years since the original church was destroyed by fire. The partners aim to resurrect the historic heart of Herkenrode by that year. The work of art will be connected to the heavily dilapidated sister quarters, the oldest half-timbered construction in Flanders. In this way the ruins are also propped up and incorporated into the whole. What exactly that connection will look like is being further investigated based on Herita's inventory and maintenance work.

In August 2024, the VRT wrote about the dilapidated sister accommodations that will partly disappear and partly be included in the project. It's a shame because the old sister quarters (sixteenth century) were dying but at the same time living remains of the historic heart of the abbey with wooden beams and clay. But much of it is gone and cannot be restored and is therefore dismantled and incorporated into the work of art. We are left with the many photos and memories of this fragmented piece of the past. The work of art that will bear the name Clausura - a spatial memory, will probably become known to the general public as the big brother of the 'see-through church' in Borgloon. The new work bears the signature of the makers. Using a structure of thin steel pipes, we will spatially return the silhouettes of the historic complex to their original locations. The result is a three-dimensional line drawing that brings the scale, space and meaning of the (partly) disappeared buildings back to the site. Characteristic components such as structural interior vaults, columns, doors and window openings are included. The whole will look abstract, like a wireframe, but will also contain enough recognizable details to stimulate the visitor's imagination.
