As a result of industrialization and hard coal mining in the 19th century, Zwickau's population grew, especially in the suburbs. Therefore, the boards of the Marien and Katharinen congregation decided to form three parishes from the two districts of their congregations from January 1, 1893: Marien, Katharinen and Luther.
The foundation stone was laid on August 20, 1902 and the church was ceremoniously inaugurated on January 29, 1906.
