Hessian State Theater (1892/94) – Wiesbaden 🚴‍♂️

The Hessian State Theater is a so-called five-part theater and is located at the northern end of the "Warmer Damm" park on the east side of Wilhelmstraße. The theater has four stages: the Grand Theater with 1,041 seats, the Small Theater with 328 seats, the Studio with 89 seats, and, since 2003, the external Wartburg Theater with around 600 seats.

In 1827, the new ducal court theater was opened in the immediate vicinity of the Nassauer Hof Hotel, but by the end of the 19th century, it had proven too small. The construction of the then new royal court theater was promoted and funded by Emperor Wilhelm II. Wiesbaden was a world-renowned spa town in the 19th century, and the ruling houses of Germany and foreign rulers often came here for cures. In addition to governing in a relaxed atmosphere, rulers also valued culture and visits to the theater and opera, which they understandably did not want to miss during their spa stays. Thus, the new theater building was built in 1892/1894 for 1.8 million gold marks in the neo-baroque style. Models for the new building included theaters in Prague, Vienna, and Zurich. On October 16, 1894, the new building was ceremoniously opened in the presence of the emperor after only 22 months of construction.

Nice building and, above all, it's easy to get past by bike ... those who come by bike from the Bahnhif in the direction of Neroberg can drive via Paulinenstraße directly past the theater entrance and thus avoid Wilhelmstraße.
